I want to Shoop, but I don't know how

I've heard about Gimp and I think I'll choose that - mainly because there's no way I'm paying a shitload of money for photoshop.

I know there's tutorials on youtube, but what are the best ones?

I specifically want to be able to cut out an image from it's background without too much trouble.

Any tips or tricks, my friends?

If you have Word, Excel, or Powerpoint 2010, it looks like you can do it with one of those:

I've never used gimp, but I imagine once you get the background removed, you can simply open the desired new background photo in gimp and copy-paste the removed-background image (or click "add photo" if there's such an option in gimp).

so to "remove the background" are most of you using an eraser tool to put transparency around the object you want, or a point-to-point cutting tool to go around the edge of the object you want? I usually do the latter, but sometimes I have to use both options if I don't keep all objects as separate layers

@Jehannum I use an eraser tool that automatically recognizes backgrounds.

It works 90% of the time to delete the right stuff, but sometimes the colors of the background and the image I want to cut out are too close, so I'll have to manually erase part of the background.

Do you use a tool like the one I use or do you go through and erase everything manually? I imagine on a PC it wouldn't be that bad, but on a mobile device it's incredibly time-consuming to do everything manually.

I don't "do" modern phones so yeah all on my pc, and no I don't use an auto eraser tool like that, but most of the time I cut round the object to guarantee precision and then usually save as a png for later use in other projects (but I should save them as the file type for my software so it doesn't save only the visible data, but also allows you to add the background back. Still improving my habits)
