Benson Henderson will challenge Andrey Koreshkov for the Bellator MMA welterweight title on April 22 in Uncasville, Connecticut.

ESPN.com confirmed the 170-pound championship fight with Bellator officials on Tuesday. The bout, which will mark Henderson's promotional debut, will headline Bellator 153 inside Mohegan Sun Arena.

Henderson (23-5) is a former UFC and WEC lightweight champion. The 32-year-old recently ended a 14-fight run with the UFC by signing a multi-fight deal with Bellator. A longtime 155-pounder, Henderson recorded back-to-back wins as a welterweight in 2015.

Winnable fight for Bendo.

Hoping for an Askren superfight to co-main with Fedor/Reem at Rizin/Bellator/OneFC Explosion.

Truly intriguing scrap. Benson should win, but Andrey is criminally underrated. I think this is just a way of Coker insuring that benson stays. With benson as the champ, even more incentive to stay. They should make sure this card is fun and legit top to bottom

That's a tough fight for Benson. Askren wrestlefucked Koreshkov so bad that it wore off on him and he wrestlefucked Lima to win the belt. Couple that with dynamite in his hands and you have a tough dude to beat.

With Benson's credentials and Bellator's WW talent pool, this fight makes sense. I like that Ben is getting the respect he deserves from his promoter now. He seems like such a genuinely good person that the way this situation worked out makes me happy. Good for him.

Was just thinking this. That Ben fight def changed him BUT Benson has been doing that for longer. Def excited for this fight.

Wonder if we will see the toothpick return in Bellator.

CutmanMatt @CutmanMatt what's your take on this?
My take on the toothpick, or Bendo getting an immediate title shot?

Toothpick - I wish he wouldn't, but if he does, I hope he at least tells me so that if there's a problem, I'll know why.

Immediate title shot- I have no problem with it, He's on a streak right now and has been facing high level competition. It wasn't in Bellator, but I don't think that means we can ignore what he's been doing.

as much as I look forward to his debut (I'm finally optimistic about his move from the UFC) I wish he would sort his hair out

I'd rather see him fighting Will Brooks since Brooks seems to have a hard time finding guys to fight in Bellator but this'll do. I think Bendo will be a 2 division champ in short order.

One tweet to Patricky and Brooks has his next opponent.

And I don't think so- I don't see Brooks losing that title.

I hope that Bellator will give him Patricky but I was also hoping that they'd give him Thomson and that isn't happening.

I see Brooks bailing the first chance he gets. He doesn't seem to be very enthused by the fact that he's basically shelved right now.

I think so too- which sucks, but it is what it is.

But it gives so much shoop scope.
Must be a pain in the ass to fight with though
