hmm... I thought this thread was about wearing Tapout gear while lifting.

But yeah, I've noticed at my gym, the schedule for the group classes... MMA is one of them. wonder what exactly an "MMA" fitness class is. I go late at night so I never get to be there when the classes are going on.

Disagree.

As will the UK crowd. Just from experience kicking (Americans don't know how to kick a ball)

Way more power can be thrown via a kick to a grounded opponent rather than standing. Plus you have to factor in the vulnerability of the recipient on the ground as opposed to standing.

I'd rather eat a lhk from Mirka that a soccer kick from aldo

Truth
Agree, you are not alone......the main difference is tied to vulnerability....IMO

Nah. By the time a kick reaches all that way up its lost some.

On a soccer kick it's at the peak.

Am I alone In this? If I was down on all fours eating a soccer kick I'd expect it to be bar more devastating kick than if I was in the middle standing and get cold clocked via a high kic

?
Nope. I think the head is way more prone to whipping about as well because it's hard to brace against the leverage

Agreed the amount the head moves about from soccer kicks seems to be worse I doubt people can brace or roll with it as well from a prone position. Couple that with the fact that a lot of them are half out when the kick lands, I think it's trouble.

that's my opinion as well...ya have at least some sorta better chance to save/protect yourself from getting kicked in the head if you're on your feet.

Not really though. I've taken my fair share of stompings and if there's only one dude I like mychances. If there's a few you have to worry about angles and shit, one on one I see no difference between headkicks and soccer kicks, in a street fight it's a bit different.

That was my point, sorry I am not very coherent. It's breakfast drink time.

Point is that in a ring with a ref soccer kicks are all good in my book. Whereas stomps on the street are very dangerous and should be avoided.

I trane at a commercial gym, one peg down from full on Planet fitness.

There is a notice board near reception that has the bio of each and every PT and Ive noticed that they have now updated their skills to include "MMA" even the overweight 50 year old chinese woman is now an MMA fighter.

There one Yugoslav guy who is a trainer and I some times talk to, you know him, the always bulking dude. I ask him about his MMA training this morning and he says he has had a few MMA fights (BS) so I whip out the phone and google him in front of him and nothing comes up except his FB which has nothing about MMA on it.

I tell him that sites like sherdog have even shitty class C shooto guys like me listed and show him. I then ask him what medical tests he had before his fights (HIV AND Hep B &C mandatory here) and he says "Oh the doctor just wrote a note after checking I wasnt injured.

LOL gotta laugh, should I

1. Ask him to roll in the boxing room and clock choke him
2. Ask him to light spar in the boxing room and toy with him until I gas in about 90 seconds
3. Let it go

??
How old is he and how big is he?
How long ago were his fights and were they in Australia or back in old Country?
How are you going to clock choke someone with no gi? Really strong collared polo shirt? I would like you to go with this option just to see if you can pull it off. Make sure you record it and upload it here :) win or lose!

Ive got a couple of old Gis at my folks place or I can Cup/Saucer choke him, forgot the actual name for it the one where youre in side control set your choke on with his arm in then jump to the other side. Its my go to drunken wrestling move against my untraned buddies.

Make sure you record it and upload it here :) win or lose!
Hahaha Im gonna let it go man, Im a 37 year old family man FFS. Its the audacity of people making such BS claims that gets to me, when my mates say to people that I used to fight MMA I cringe cause Ive only fought C Class Shooto which is no striking on the ground, fuck knows who these people lie to themselves. I could only imagine what proper MMA guys think about this shit.
