I think almost 15 years of ZUFFA UFC, they need to move beyond funny, but I agree in a "Sharknado is good" way vs Anik. They need a signature A lister.
Don't get me wrong. Having Goldie on the broadcast is a disgrace for any company that wants to be considered the best MMA viewing experience. It was more a statement of how bad I consider Anik is. Anik has trouble injecting enthusiasm into the broadcast, even when he tries it comes across as very fake. Whether this is true or not, I think it comes down to how bland his voice sounds. When I've seen him in a studio setting he has been perfectly fine, able to articulate points and set up questions in the right manner. However, in commentary he is just dreadful, he is bland, un-knowledgable about the sport and doesn't have Goldie's charm/idiosyncrasies to make up for it, even slightly.

I still love Bason the mic.

Yes indeed. So much knowledge in MMA and guys hilarious with so much energy. Him and Hardy would be a great tag team in my earhole.
Problem is you still need a lead, neither can read corn nut ads and lead in lead out broadcast. They are specialist color guys.

Bas is one of the best.

I think they could manage just fine over a few shows. Dan is relatively new as a whole and Bas seems the type to learn something over night.

10-10 mohawk got the knock down, but lost the striking after that.

Nah man they wouldn't go for it and neither would their sponsors, guys like Anik. Goldberg Mauro/ Schiavello are trained in brand and lead broadcasting, it is A LOT harder than it looks. Anik may be bad realtive to thebest but he still has to be able to flow and talk without hiccuping and getting stuck all the time like the "Boom goes the dynamite" kid. They are trained in commercial voice over work that sponsors want doing spots during broadcasts. Neither Hardy not Bas have ever learned the skillset, and over 4 hours it is very difficult to maintain.

Zuffa has too many sponsors to go without a lead guy.

Mauro is my guy, I think he has a great voice and is better than either guy in Zuffa. Maura/Bas, Mauro/Hardy, or even Schiavell/Hardy/bas would be preferrable to me.

Him and Hardy are both play by play guys. I think Mauro, Rogan and Bas would be the optimal 3 man team. Swap Bas for Jimmy Smith and it's fine. Hardy is awesome too though.

Another reason I wished they had bit the bullet and gone with ESPN, ESPN would have demanded and provided an A-Lister to boost the product.

Ahh I see. I have no idea how that stuff works but I'm a big fan of Mauro/ Schiavello and would love to see them working along with Bas, Rogan or Hardy somehow.

Schiavello is an acquired taste. I like him, but can see how people get turned off by his cheesy comments.

Lol. I'm going to start a thread full of his quotes. He'd work great for Bellator where there's not a surplus of shows so it keeps it fun.

Often in a variety of sports the main guy is not necessarily super knowledgeable about the sport, he is just mainly there to guide the broadcast and link all the plays and pieces of the brand spots and breaks together and differ and open up areas for the color guy with experience in the sport to explain. The problem with Golberg is really, he never learned the sport well enough mix the two and he TRIES WAY TOO HARD to borrow time from Joe and chime in with wisdom and he was exposed in his NFL Vikings game.

If you're just a good lead voice, you can do almost anything as long as you use the Color guy right. Jim Ross did this over the course of one broadcast with Chael a few months ago when he did his first MMA show. He start off really seeming not to know much but he guided the broadcast as he is skilled in doing and used his color guys to even it out and by the end he had gotten into a nice groove.
