Hey guys

I was wondering, my next fight is scheduld for end of April and i was thinking about taking a fight at lightweight. and try a weight cut like american fighters.
The reason why,?..
I never really cut weight for my fights i walk around in the weight I fight in. But talking to american fighters they always cut weight max 22pounds. So if take a fight in america in the future i'll be fighting natural middleweights in the welterweight class. so as a natural welterweight maybe i should fight at lightweight?

I'm 6"1 i walk around at 169 - 172 Lbs fought my last 2 fights at. -164Lbs

What do y'all think and i need some pointers on the weight cut process how do other fighters do it.

Weightcutting seems like a necessary evil for the reasons you described. Admittedly, I've never done it so I can only pass on what I've heard/read.

To my knowledge I'd start cutting carbs steadily a week prior, about 4 days before I'd stop eating anything with salt, the day before I wouldn't drink any water and I'd sweat out the rest of the weight. The thing is that it seems like some people lose weight easier than others and it seems like everyone has his own process so I would err on the side of caution trying it before a fight for the first time, there's time til April though.

Hope some people here can give you some better tips.

14-17lbs seems like a pretty manageable cut.

Leigh @Leigh ECC170 @ECC170 any advice?

I used to cut weight when I wrestled but that consisted of always hovering around my weight and then no eating for 2 days out so don't follow my advice.

I tried cutting weight in HS for wrestling but it went badly for me. I was told switching to drinking only distilled water helps.

did you take some supplements like bcaa afterwards to feel 100% and get back on weight or is eating and drinking enough

i know that's why i'm trying to get as much information as i can before trying it
That's smart. Good luck man, and sorry i can't be of more assistance. Like i said, my big behind got pretty sick and sluggish afterwards.

I have no idea about that bro, I haven't ever cut weight, just passing on some info I've read from bodybuilders and fighters over the years, I would suggest you do a test weight cut before trying it for the fight to see how you react to it and how much weight you can comfortably lose..but your April deadline and with training etc that might set you back a lot..

Hope the best either way bro, just be careful with your body.

From what I hear fighters diet down as fight week gets close and then lose water weight. I would probably do a pre-cut before fighting and see if the how the weigh cut affects your body.

Also cutting wigh seems like a must when everyone is cutting 15-20 pounds. I would talk to pro-fighters and get their opinion in this subject.

On a scale of 1-10 how would you rate Dolce's book(s)? I've heard some people say he's great and some say he's garbage.

Yes. Here are some tips:
1) Do a practise cut before taking a fight at 155.
2) Do most of it through diet. Do not starve yourself. Cut carbs and load up on veggies.
3) Draw a chart with a target weight for each day. Do 0.5lb per day until you are 10lbs over, then do 1lb per day.
4) If you need to cut water, do less than 3lbs and do it with a hot bath. No need for salt or that other bro science silliness.
5) Rehydration is very important. Get your carbs back in with a carb drink and carb food. Don't just pig out on junk. You want decent amounts of sodium and potassium. Carb to protein ratio 4:1. DO NOT BLOAT. If you start to bloat, stop. Drink plain water after the weigh in until you wee, then switch to carb drink. Once you are weeing clear, start on soft food like rice pudding. You need to allow your stomach to hydrate before it can digest food properly.

A big thing is when your weigh-in is. My last one was the day of. Not fun.

I had to cut 12lbs (because I was stupid and ate carbs before because I was so hungry) two days before..

I ate only bits of ice before the weigh-in, worked out on an elliptical hardcore and put myself in a half-assed DIY sauna.

I came in 2lbs under! Lol!

What I would have given to have a 24hr weigh-in!

I was on point before, but I fucked up near the end.

I started my cut two weeks before the fight. I never wrestled, but I followed my buddy's advice who was a Canadian champion in his weight class. There was nobody better in his weight class in all of Canada. Seriously.

He said start at two weeks.
