Court's Reading of Contract Will Settle Bellator vs. Rampage Jackson Standoff | Bleacher Report

"I have read the entirety of Bellator's request for an injunction (obtained by Bleacher Report via a Freedom of Information Act request late last week) against Quinton "Rampage" Jackson.

I have opinions on the injunction, but those aren't enough, and so I've turned to an expert. We'll get to that in a little bit. First, a little history.

If you are not familiar with the story, here is a refresher, courtesy of the injunction filing from Viacom:

USA TODAY SportsAfter beating Mo Lawal at Bellator 120 (Bellator's first pay-per-view event) on May 17, 2014, Jackson's manager Anthony McGann was informed by Spike TV's Kevin Kay that the pay-per-iew sales had not reached the threshold of sales where Jackson would receive a bonus.

Per Jackson's contract (also included in the court documents), he would receive $4 per PPV buy for all purchases above 190,000. Because Kay confirmed the event only did 100,000 buys, Jackson would not receive a bonus.

Shortly after, Jackson indicated that he wanted to discuss renegotiating his contract with new Bellator president Scott Coker. In his statement in the injunction filing, Coker said he believed that Jackson was a valuable asset for Bellator, and so he agreed to talk with Jackson about changing his contract....."

I live about 30 minutes from where this court hearing is taking place. Might have to go check it out.

So it all comes down to whether Jackson should have been given a copy of the pvp receipt, which he didn't get, but the contract says he 'shall' get. Looks like he will be fighting to me.

Still pretty shitty thing to do after they gave you an extra $200k they didn't have to. So, while Rampage might be in the right legally, still a douche move.

Do you have a legal background that you are basing that off of? I don't get a lot of contract law type stuff and what does and doesn't nullify and agreement.

No, just read the article and what the Houston legal professor had to say.

Can't imagine someone giving me a good-faith check for 200K and not feeling some kind of strong loyalty toward them.

What's kind of funny to me is, if the PPV had done double, and sold 200K buys.....Rampage would have gotten a $40,000 bonus(10,000 buys x $4). But since Coker wanted to keep QJ happy, he cuts a $200,000 check for the guy and then QJ runs and signs a deal with the UFC. SMH

Well that doesnt surprise me, he seems to be one that likes to jump around and milk what he can. If he stayed he would have to eventually have a rematch with King Mo and im not sure he really won the first match can you imagine what the second one would have looked like?

I'm really interested what the Zuffa offered him this time around to jump ship.

He will probably go 1-2 in his next 3 fights and get cut again.

I think he was getting like a flat 250k a fight plus ppv on his last contract before going to Bellator.

I think we are past the days of Zuffa cutting a name fighter on losses. They are locking up guys not even in the top 50 of a division. No namer's on losses? yes, past prime former superstars? I'd be surprised.

Rampage if he survives the contract dispute will be the Koscheck of new, he is slow and would get humiliated by most of the top 25. He himself would come in somewhere in the top 50 but where would take some research.

the ufc has over 500 fighters at the moment, quite a few big name ones and it was very well known that the last time rampage fought for the ufc him and dana had a lot of issues and he caused dana a lot of headaches so with al the talent the ufc has why do they even need rampage anymore? to me it does not make sense to even deal with such a pain in the u know what, let bellator have him.

This was all a ruse imo.
