Schilling perks up considerably when talking about the Diaz brothers. They are good friends and often hang out together when not training. Nick and Schilling have made more than one sojourn to Las Vegas together for downtime and he also hangs out with Nate.

Schilling has just finished watching the pre-fight press conference for Nate Diaz's fight with Conor McGregor at UFC 196. Diaz is stepping in on late notice to replace an injured Rafael dos Anjos, and so the fight is taking place at 170lbs.

"I think Nate is in his head already. Did you see how flustered he was when Nate threw that in about steroids? Ha!" laughs Schilling. I am not so sure; I suggest that Conor's reaction was probably down to the steroids comment being unexpected and "coming from nowhere".

He doesn't see it. "Coming from nowhere? Dude it didn't come from nowhere. Look at him, he's put on about seventy pounds. Very interesting. His arms are f--king huge, look at him. But even if it did come out of nowhere it's still good because Conor is used to getting in everybody's head and Nate was like 'nah, f--k you!'

"I will be putting money on Nate. I think what Nate's weaknesses are, Conor is not good at. I think it's a great fight for Nate. His size is too much for Conor and I think that Conor's knockout power has a lot to do with him fighting smaller people. I think knocking out a 145er is a lot different to knocking out a guy who walks around at 185lbs and who has never been knocked out before with punches.

"On the ground Nate submits him quickly and easily and standing, his speed and the way he punches, the volume as well, he will pick him apart. Power-wise, I think Nate hits harder than Conor has ever been hit. I will be placing a large amount of money on Nate. I think it's a great payday for Nate and it will be for me as well.

"Nate Diaz trains for fun. He might put on weight between fights but he runs five or six miles regularly, for or five days a week, he does sports for fun, constantly in the gym, constantly training and sparring. Is he in full fight-camp shape? No, but he is far from going to gas out in the first round believe me."

If nate had a full camp, I would be more excited.. i just cant get excited as i should, because of how out of shape nate will be.. they made it at 170 because diaz said he could go as low as 165...

didn't kabib say he was willing to fight conor? isn't kabib in camp for another fight?

that's the thing. im sure this isn't conor's doing. dude has confidence for days, but why is it that the ufc gives him an opponent that isn't in camp as opposed to someone who is indeed in camp and also in the same weightclass (kabib/ Ferguson)

also, wasn't edgar in camp when they chose mendes as a late replacement against conor?(im not 100% so correct me if im wrong here)

From what I recall, yes. Edgar wanted that fight (when Mendes got it). The UFC isn't dumb. They all see what we see. Guys like Edgar, Khabib, and Ferguson are going to give him problems, so even though Conor himself may be saying he'll fight anyone...I think the UFC is working to make sure he gets favorable match-ups while he can. They know what they're doing.

I listened to Chael interviewing King mo and even King mo said they don't want Khabib because he will ragdoll Conor and submit him which I agree with. He said someone like Pettis or Nate is better for a money fight.........and this was all prior to the confirmation that Nate was the chosen one.
Also said that clay guida was in the mix.

I don't like Conor anymore. His whole act, if it is one, is past the point of being aggravating. It's one thing to have supreme confidence but he takes it too far and acts like he's bigger than the sport and goes out of his way to disrespect his opponents.

If I had money and the odds dropped to +350, I'd put some down on Nate. I think his length will give Conor fits. I think a full camp and if Nate didn't try to stand and bang with him, Nate would be a nightmare for Conor.

I believe! However, I should have waited to plop down some money on Nate. He's at +335 now...if he gets to +350 I may throw another 50 on him.

Khabib is scheduled to headline a Fox card in April. With the bout being promised to Fox as a headliner, it makes it a lot more complicated to pull that fight off of the card, and it sets a precedent that the UFC will be willing to compromise a business deal in the future. Also, Khabib has told everyone over and over that there was no way he would be ready by March, but as soon as the Conor fight pops up in the first week of March he is suddenly ready to go. There was a lot against that fight happening.

Edgar had just fought Faber in Manilla a couple of months earlier, and he didn't fight again until December, so I doubt he was in camp. He was probably in better shape than Mendes, but he wasn't in "fight 5 rounds in 11 days" shape.

$25 to win $385

I had a 15 dollar parlay for a Meisha w/ Conor over RDA to win $110, so that turned in to a straight Meisha bet of $15 to pay $45
Good luck man. I've got a parlay with a couple of dogs this weekend, but mine are Leites and Bisping...which I'm not confident in after todays weigh ins.

Cutting 20 pounds in 2 weeks will drain you, playing it smart and taking the fight at your natural weight doesn't equate being out of shape. Nate from what I've been told has been training for a triathlon... The guy runs 10-20 miles daily... Hell even when he was on a "vacation" after teaching a seminar at our gym, he still was up at like 5/6 AM and did a training session even though he didn't have a fight scheduled (this was before his December fight). I've mentioned this before, fighting in a weight class doesn't mean that's what they walk around at (as I hope you know)... There's a proper way to cut weight to maximize your performance and NOT be to drained to fight, and cutting 20+ lbs in a week is not the way to do it.

Yeah OK m8. Bet the house on Nate, and then move in with him after you lose it.

This is cool. Right now i'm trying to collect notes on any technical input fighters/coaches are saying about this Match up. Conor has mentioned some pretty interesting technical points he noticed in Nate's striking habits. Firas has mentioned a few great points about the match up too.

I think Conor's power stems way beyond what Joe mentions about him being big for the division. Firas explained it well when he discussed punching power.
