Engrish speakers would certainly have an easier time than those speaking farsi (spelling?) or arabic, I think that's the point of his post.
His strawman point, sure.

And another thing, why did these dudes leave their families behind in a war torn country. I'd rather it be me there then my wife/kids
Maybe to scope it out first and see if the promises were true (they weren't).

Really Leigh @Leigh? If you had the option to send your family to a non war torn country or stay in a war torn country while you check out the nonwartorn country, you'd go first and leave them in the war torn country?

How would speaking perfect English be relevant to being a refugee in Germany?

The comparison is weak because you won't be in that position? That's a pretty psychopathic level of empathy.
did you miss the part somewhere in all of our conversations where I am not a very empathetic person?!?

and how would me speaking english be relevant? well, since Germany is in the top countries that speak English (close to 70% of the country speaks english) I would have a better chance than some Syrian that has barely any english or none at all trying to be a truck driver.

how is it a straw man? its a perfectly good point that I would have a MUCH easier time assimilating than a Syrian or Iraqi.

so basically back to my point. your comparison is garbage.

Sure but:
1) "Perfect" English is irrelevant to figure shit out and communicate
2) Germany isn't the most assimilating country. It's not like speaking English means you can work anywhere
3) It's a strawman to my point that being a refugee in a foreign country without your family is shit
1) perfect english is very relevant when you are trying to get a job, or find your way around or ASSIMILATE to your new surroundings.

2) really? then why did they let them in in the first place? to be ignorant?

3) that's not your point. your point is that "what if that happened to you as a Canadian". and if you dont see how that comparison doesnt make sense then this conversation between us is over.

3) That is exactly my point. I'm saying put yourself in their shoes. But as you say, you are not empathetic at all so I shouldn't expect you to understand that.

I don't know, I don't know the exact situation and I can only guess what I would do as I'm fortunate enough to never have experienced that. You're probably right.

I did put myself in their shoes. you just cant handle that its NOT THE SAME!
You put yourself in their shoes by saying you speak English so fuck 'em.

I don't really have much more to say to you. We both agree you have no empathy and to be quite honest I'm a little disgusted at your attitude. You're of course entitled to your opinion.

People without empathy for others are usually the first to complain when shit doesn't go their way. Boils down to selfishness.

Sucks for these folks just trying to find a place for their families where they can just live, work, and die in peace.

@Splinty's point earlier that they should have had more realistic expectations of what they would find on the other side is true.

Having talked to you a good amount on here I think you'd be surprised at what you'd be capable of if you and your family were ever in this situation. After to you experienced the atrocities of war I can't imagine any scenario where you would leave your family behind while you exited the war zone

No one is denying that, but kielbasa is not fucking German!
I'm not arguing that. I'm probably going to have a beer with that meal as well - American. And dumplings with mashed potatoes.

It's a smorgasbord of flavors from across the globe.

When my grandfather moved here he was told they were only taking working able bodied men and that they'd have to pay for their families to be able to come over. So he had to come here, work and then send back for them. If the government here had changed their mind (like the Germans did) he'd likely have gone back too.

Having said that; I don't know the exact situation in Germany, but a lot of the refugees are being told "Okay, just go where ever they'll take you, you can meet up with your families later" and now the deals being changed on them.

Thanks for shedding some light on the subject.

To the best of my knowledge there weren't gang rapes of American women occurring on a weekly basis. It's a shitty situation and nobody has a fucking easy way out.

I was overseeing some contractors that were helping rebuild some of the Iraqi infrastructure (power plants, dams, and roads) and they were some of the nicest people I've met in my entire life. One guy tried to give me a gold watch because i told him it was nice looking. I politely refused of course, but it was definite culture shock to a kid from the States. If you compliment people in here out of the blue like that, the majority will look at you like you have a dick growing out of your face. I much prefer the former attitude, rather than the latter.

Yeah, that's fucked up.
