I'll have to check out Gods & Monsters. Thanks for the tip.

S @Super Dave or @Alienator: I have an 11 year old. I let him read The Dark Knight Returns, Hush, Nightwing New 52. but stopped short of The Killing Joke. It's a bit rapey for an 11 year old, IMHO. We've watched Flashpoint, Under the Red Hood, & Public Enemies. Do you guys think Gods & Monsters is safe for him?
I haven't seen that one yet. Looks a little darker than the average ones, but i don't know.

If he's seen Flashpoint you should be good. To me that was the most brutal DC animated movie.
It's been a while since I've watched it though.

Brutal I can deal with, but mind-scarring brutality & rape is where I draw the line.

It's violent but I don't know if its mind scarring. Like I said watching flashpoint I was surprised how violent that one was.
They made tie in mini episodes you can find on machinima. They're like 6 minute episodes and that'll give you the idea of the tone of the movie.

Damn, thanks S @Super Dave. Can't wait to check it out.

Mind scarring, for an 11 year old, would be like that South Park when Cartman killed the dude's parents & fed him chilli made of their corpses.

My kid watched the first few seasons of the Walking Dead with the wife. We stopped when they got to Terminus.

Parent of year award, anyone???

Anybody read Rebirth yet? If so what did you think?
I can't decide if Johns is a genius or he's lost his mind.
Aside from the bi-monthly shipping I'm excited to read DC comics again.

By in large I loved it, although i'm wary of what he's doing with Watchmen. My inner child is super psyched to see watchmen in the main universe though... haha.

i have not read any comic books for many years, however I do still have mountains of longboxes taking up space. So I feel comfortable saying anything with Bob Harras in charge is doomed to turn to shit.
If I recall johns wrote Jsa, so maybe the trajectory could be upward?

Johns did have a run on JSA. Not sure how long you've been away from comics but Johns had a legendary run on Green Lantern years ago.

Yes, I left before that was over. I believe I recall liking him. Do you remember if he was involved with the old Sandman or Starman reboots?
If he has risen to have actual creative control, and not just a lead writer answering to a nitwit that could be promising.
This is a dangerous thread for me. I don't want to stop by a comic shop just to see what's up. Fore I fear I could leave with a bag full of material. That would of course lead to more boxes, when I need to get rid of the ones I already have.
I always preferred DC so I wish them well. If only for some more decent material to become filmed entertainment.

For the past few years he's been CCO at DC so he's top dog for creativity.
From what I've read he's overseeing everything to do with Rebirth but realistically he can only do so much.
I too am a DC fan and its been a tough run through the new52 era.

Yeah, I quit well before the new 52. When I heard about it I thought it was stupid, then I heard Harras was put in charge and it all made sense. It is my belief he was awful at marvel, and it made me sad he would be ruining DC.
Hopefully he no longer has input there.

I'm been reading comics for a long time and I'm tired of the reboots of the universes. Marvel just did that Secret Wars garbage and now DC with this.....I feel like it's the 90's all over again with them constantly trying to get #1 issues on the shelf and screwing around with what has worked well for a long time. I get subtle changes but these overhauls of the entire universes? It's running me off from reading those books.

I don't read that much marvel so their events don't have much effect on my reading list but imo the New 52 at DC hasn't been working so I'm glad for this reboot.
