Five potential matchups for UFC 200

GSP? Really? Does anyone really believe GSP can be talked into coming back in the next 4 months to take an immediate title shot with no warm-up fights after a 2 year layoff?

I think Rousey vs. Tate is the front-runner for 200 now. We all thought Rousey was taking a sabbatical after the Holm fight, but now that her personal whipping girl holds her old belt, suddenly Ronda's plans of "acting", crushing tubs of ice cream while watching Steel Magnolias and crying on Ellen get thrown out the window. You know she's probably back in the gym eyeing this date, knowing Holm won't be around waiting to retire her permanently now. Time to fight the girl with the fake titties for a third time.

Zuhabi says GSP's been training pretty intensely for quite some time now, so it's possible. The question about taking a tune up fight is certainly valid though. Would be a tough task to come back from a 2 yr layoff and step in there with a savage like Lawler, with his improved TDD.

I dont know who they're going to put on this card because the timing seems to be so fucked up.

Cormier & Jones are fighting in late April
Might Mouse & Cejudo in April
Khabib & Ferguson in April
Rothwell & dos Santos in April
Reem & Arlovski & Werdum and Miocic in May
Rockhold & Weidman in June
Rousey says she doesnt want to fight til Sept/Oct

It would be asking a lot of those guys fighting in April, to turn around and fight again 3 months later...especially if they're in wars.

4 months is enough time for Nate to heal up and fight RDA. Or Conor and Frankie at 145 lb would be a good choice. Bill it as the King going back to doninate his kingdom.

Honestly heres the thing, If Rousey/Tate III wasnt worth seeing a few months back it isnt worth seeing a few months ahead. It now is the fight to watch because dana wants everyone to forget that what was said awhile back. Tate may win or lose but I really dont care to watch rousey unless its against holm. Rousey/holm would do alot more cah than rousey/tate title or no title but dana is going all out to get is goose a belt.

There is no way they let Conor fight Frankie next. They want to protect their meal ticket, so they want to give Conor a fight he can win. Aldo gets his rematch.

They'll need a title fight.

They have Robbie who can fight either Nate or GSP (Rory and Wonderboy are tied up).
They have RDA who can fight Nate, Conor (unlikely), Alvarez, Khabib, or Ferg.
They have Conor who can fight Aldo or Frankie.
They have Meisha who can fight Ronda if Dana throws enough money at her.

They'll need at least two of those. Every other title is either on the line between now and then or that division doesn't have the draw power.

I'd put Nate on the card to see if he can deliver the numbers he says he draws. It can be either against Robbie or RDA. After that, they'll want either Conor or Ronda on that card. If Ronda flat out says no, Conor is in.

I remember thinking the card for UFC 100 was a total head scratcher at the time. It just really lacked something in terms of name value, especially because I thought of Brock as mostly a stunt who Mir had already vanquished.

In fact, looking back, I know GSP was on the card but have no idea who he fought without cheating. Still, I know 100 ended up being a good show in the end. Certainly far from the best, but better than average.

My suspicion is that even though the card will seem sort of disatisfying on paper, it will probably deliver and will certainly break a few records. I expect Conor on there and maybe Tate. I'd love an interweight challenge, but after this weekend I suspect a lot of people are back on their diets.

Man if I was GSP I'd go to Dana and say "listen asshole, your Ronda/Holly rematch is out the fucking window and Ronda/Miesha isn't going to sell for shit. Your golden boy Conor just got choked the fuck out, as did the karate kid. Brock's gone back to WWE. You got no one to sell your shit card! But for a gauranteed 20 million plus PPV points, I'll come out of retirement and save the show."

just put 10 fights on the card that consist of proven known guys and then U got the real formula for a sweet fight card

Throw TUF popularity and Manufactured Hype out and just go off what they have done in their careers...U know like it should be

I agree with the Rousey/Tate 200 match up. Long term it could be a money maker to hype the rematch for Holm vs. Rousey so things are interestingly set up for their big summer show. I think Edger vs McGregor should happen there too since it seems McGregor want to go back to 145 and get a win to wash off the recent loss.

The only real match-up left for GSP at UFC 200 is Robbie Lawler, which always made the most sense anyway. I'd imagine that GSP vs Silva was in the works prior to the Bisping loss, and it's not out of the realm of possibility that Circus barker Dana would've tried to book GSP vs Conor if McGregor had KO'd Nate as predicted. Both of those fights would've done huge numbers. There are almost no other bigger than life match-ups left once you remove either Conor or GSP from the equation.

Wild cards for UFC 200 (i.e. pipe dreams):
Fedor vs Cain If Velasquez is healthy enough
Jon Jones vs Werdum super fight, if neither man is injured in their upcoming bouts.
Cyborg vs Holm or Tate at a catch weight, or even Ronda at 145 since that weight cut would be slightly less brutal for her at this point. they could bill the fight as being for the inaugural 145 pound UFC belt if that helps to motivate Rousey.
Nate Diaz vs Cowboy 2 if RDA isn't ready, and let's be honest, it's the bigger drawing fight of the two potential match-ups.
BJ Penn vs Aoki because neither guy is in their prime anymore (Shinya might be prime still, but it's hard to tell), and why not?

Conor vs Aldo (Not saying I think that Aldo deserves it over Frankie, but after listening to Dana's reactions this weekend I bet that's what they're thinking.)
Holly vs Cyborg (Holly is now out of the title picture until Ronda fights Miesha, and Cyborg has been lobbying for a UFC fight. Didn't Holly previously say that she would be willing to fight Cyborg at a catchweight?)
Robbie vs Nate
GSP vs Hendricks II (Maybe?)

A couple of those sounds enticing, but it really is weird that we can't think of obvious huge matchups at this point. I figured 200 would be a little more clear by now.
