Eddie Alvarez is in the gym training. Is it because he's got a big fight on the horizon, or is he just staying in shape on the off chance. It's always a little hard to tell in the MMA world, where a lot of potential fights get thrown around and never actually materialize, but Alvarez appears to be suggesting pretty firmly that his title shot may be on the way. With the recent announcement that the UFC is planning to do McGregor vs. Diaz 2 and with Khabib and Ferguson sewn up for their own fight in the near future, Alvarez just might be the logical choice for a lightweight title fight that the UFC can start advertising right now.

Here's the Tweet Alvarez recently sent out from a recent training session:

So, is Alvarez the best fight for a lightweight title shot right now, assuming the UFC wants the 155lb belt at their 200 show, or should the promotion be looking for something else?

Would also be a good scrap.

Shit's all up in the air right now, and i'm interested in seeing where the chips fall.

I don't see him having much of a shot at RDA. Conor had a shot because of his striking, which is something that Eddie doesn't excel at as much. He held Pettis against the cage for most of their fight. I think RDA walks through Alvarez.

RDA has been such a monster at 155 lately it is hard to pick against him.

maybe... but looking at the time window I think they are waiting on (APR16) Ferguson/Nurmegomedov winner to match up RDA for 200.

I have a hard time getting on the RDA bandwagon because of clay breaking his jaw and habib rag dolling him.

His recent wins over benson, cerrone, petis and Nate should tell me otherwise.

Im still on the fence with him. That being said, Eddie v RDA doesn't move my needle because I think RDA is going to be way too much for Eddie.

Prime Alvarez gives anyone in the ufc lw division a hard time. Prime Alvarez is a few years ago though. His movement has seriously taken a nosedive as of late.
