MMA legend Bas Rutten agrees that Hunt has a shot at the title - if he starts to actually train for his fights!

Bas had learned that Hunt barely trains for most of his fights, a startling revelation when you consider the long career that the 'Super Samoan' has had. "I read his book, Mark Hunt’s book, and what a ride he has had and what an experience he went through in his life… and one of the biggest experiences for him is that he doesn’t train for fights. Now if he does prepare for a fight the correct way, the guy is a frikkin’ terminator."

Rutten also does not think Hunt being 42 should affect his chances of wearing UFC gold if the opportunity arrived.

"That’s just a number to me. When I was 42, I had my last fight and all my reflexes were there. I had a problem with all my injuries, but these Samoan guys, man! These Samoan guys, they have thicker bones, thicker skulls, thicker everything. They’re more durable than normal people, so if he doesn’t have big injuries, Yeah, I don’t see his explosiveness or his power - well, they say power is the last thing that goes - but even his explosiveness is still there."

I wish to see Mark Hunt become the HW champion before he retires. He can knockout anybody in that division, there's no doubt about that, I don't care who it is. It's if he can find a way to catch some of these guys is the question. I don't see Hunt ever winning a decision to become champion. He needs the knockout, and he's got the power to get it.

It's true, couple inches forward and to the left and he walks away from Werdum in Rd1. Ready to see if that belt would go around him.

It was the lower gravity at higher elevation that allowed Werdum to slip away.

You mean fall on his ass half out of it?:) Also can we give Hunt credit for diving into Werdum's guard and staying safe the whole time, that impressed me.

He can KO anybody in the division but a durable wrestler with a chin beats him 8/10 times

What's scary is that we are getting the chinny out of shape old hunt.

Could you imagine if you could get a 33 year old hunt, who still had his iron chin, to train?

That guy might be champ of the universe.

I've heard this chinny talk but haven't seen much evidence really, fair enough he's not smiling off flush CroCop head kicks anymore but I can't remember seeing him rocked.

Manhoef, JDS wheel kick, and Werdum took him out.

In his prime, he took a TON of hard shots and he never got hurt or fased ever. Ever ever. He just got mad. Then you were fucked.

He would seriously go into rage mode if you landed a good shot. It was a shitty proposition because you knew you couldn't knock him out or hurt him. Only piss him off. You had to try to win on points.

I been a huge Hunt fan since his k-1 days. My first thread on the other website over 10 years ago was about how I thought hunt could do well in Pride.

Hunt was seriously like the hulk. Shots only made him stronger. It was the damnedest thing.

Try watching his k-1 career and you will see a young savage beast mode mark hunt.

The version we have now is old matured reserved mark hunt.

Imagine a young savage beast mode mark hunt that cannot be hurt. Not even not kod, I mean not hurt. Now imagine that guy taking his training seriously.

I hunt wins the belt, Id have to seriously consider retire watching mma. Maybe go back to basketball, football or some other shit.

I didn't read his book, but I thought Hunt was talking more about his Pride and Dream/various Japan fights. If he's STILL half-assing it, that's incredible.

After the UFC offered to buy out his contract, it would be very cool if Hunt were to win the title. The mans a legend.

Hunt is a guy who gives a whole new meaning to a "puncher's chance." That is one dude who can hit the lottery.

Its idiots trying to downplay the shots he took. 8k elevation and that massive flying knee... That wheel kick from jds... Melvin's power + headbutting a steel cup.. Yep. Chinny.
