Jon Jones will only face $100 penalty as a sign of goodwill after he was stopped in February for speeding and didn't have a driver's license or proof of insurance.

Jones appeared in court on Wednesday according to TMZ where he settled the traffic infraction by providing proof of insurance and his driver's license.

Jones was stopped by a police officer in New Mexico after doing 75 mph in a 35 mph zone. At the time of the stop, Jones claimed he was rushing to a training session at the gym and forgot his identification along with insurance and registration for the car.

no wonder the guy never learns .wtf is the point of giving a millionaire a 100 dollar fine? that is like fining a normal dude 5 cents. i hope it cost him 50k in lawyer fees

He probably just showed his passport as proof of insurance when he went to court, and was therefore given a small fine. This isn't rocket science guys.

Read the article. It was a donation, not a fine.

One time I got a ticket for not having my registration or proof of insurance. I went to the courthouse with proof of the documents, paid $10, and that was it.

It was the police officer who chose not to write Jones a ticket for speeding. It is the officer's discretion to do so in these situations.

This is normal stuff that happens every day, guys.

When I was 16 I was doing 60 mph in a 35 mph zone and one of my headlights was out. A cop stopped me, saw that I was just an inexperienced kid, and wrote me a warning and said to fix the headlight asap. I did.

It's likely Jones' fame got him a break from the cop, but what happened is not completely unfathomable for a normal person.

I made a thread with the audio recording of the traffic stop but I'm too lazy to look it up.

This guy just doesnt fucking learn. He will be in trouble again anytime. He probably shouldnt be driving either. Guy is a menace behind a wheel, and not responsible enough to drive.

If he was speeding then he is as good as the rest of us...Fuck his 'training'

Also the 'officer' is not quite that...One rule for one then...

Then you should move to a non Anglo-Saxon country that has a civil law judicial and not a common law judicial system.

Different people can be guilty of the exact same offense for entirely different reasons. Should a guy who's driving his pregnant wife to the hospital get a speeding ticket too?

I guess you're right. After all, he's still a "young man" in his late 20's who makes "mistakes" because he "doesn't know better" and was "thrust into the limelight" before he could "find his way" in the world.

Give him another 20-25 years, he'll mature

I don't know why the cop was let him off without an expensive speeding ticket. It could have been because he recognized Jon Jones and is a UFC fan. You'd have to ask the cop.

But it's the cop's discretion. Hot girls flirt their way out of speeding tickets every day. Sympathetic cops often take it easy on people they deem are telling the truth.

Listen to it yourself and decide.
