If the UFC had made this exact same poster you'd still call it lame. Guaranteed.
99% of the UFC's posters are two dudes staring at each other. Pride made posters that actually made you think a bit when you saw them. There are some exceptions but there is a reason why people complain so much about their posters. Most diehard fight fans love most of Prides. I tend to be one of those of those people.

You are right, if the UFC made the exact same poster I'd call it lame because Pride already made it.

Yep, pretty original.

Lol, so you think there is a bigger chance that someone saw this random Lou Reed poster than they just had the same idea? Also, Lou Reed isn't the only person to have stuff written on his face. You can't exactly patent the idea.

I love Pride's posters. I love Pride in itself. I hate the fact that MMA fans are such jaded hipsters all the time, though. Pride was cool. I think people remember it a little better than it was, though.. and being anti-anything UFC is a trend that gets in the way of people actually enjoying things sometimes. Look at this thread for example. The UFC gets shit on for always being generic (which they deserve, because most of their posters are terrible) but then they put out something with a little more thought and the thread turns into an endless stream of Pride posters. Pride was cool. We get it. It's over though, and it is never coming back the way it was. The UFC is not Pride, and that is a good thing in a lot of ways, including the fighters' paychecks. I don't like a lot of what the UFC does, but I am glad that I am not as bitter as a lot of you guys, though.

It's better than the absolute shit posters they've made for years. Not great, but it's a step in the right direction.

That's one of the most iconic posters of the nineties, designed by Sagmeister & Walsh, a very well known and respected design firm in New York. So yes, the odds are that whoever designed those two UFC 200 posters was probably aware of that "random Lou reed poster" from 1996.

Ol' Sagmeister was probably stealing from this poster made in 1899 too, then.

See? I can do it too. It's not a very hard concept to come up with. Similarity is not proof of intellectual theft.

I saw more on IG

I wonder how the official event poster will turn out, has potential to be when of the better ones in a while imo. Last artsy one i recall was Lawler vs Hendricks with the comic theme which was pretty cool.

Much better than anything they've put out in the past year.
in a sense that it's different, they tried. but still the creativity is light years away from these...

and these... (some are unofficial)

UFC makes billions and they have trouble hiring talented designers. They even have one for Dana

You seem pretty defensive about those UFC 200 poster designs, or is it more a case of justifying the premise of your thread? Either way, since you mentioned it in your response, here's the inspiration behind the Lou Reed poster.

Lou Reed Poster
"I went to a show in Soho by middle Eastern artist Shirin Neshat. She used arabic type written on hands and feet. It was very personal. When I came back I read Lou's lyrics for Trade In, a very personal song about his need to change. We used his lyrics written on his face." -Stefan Sagmeister

You're missing my point, but that could be my fault. Sagmeister's motivations don't matter to me. It is just an interesting assumption to make in my opinion. Nothing more.
