"After the fight, Lorenzo (Fertitta) and I went up to Conor's house that he was renting here in Las Vegas and started talking about, ‘what are you thinking, what's next?' And he was obsessed," White said Wednesday on ESPN. "Obsessed with fighting Nate Diaz again.

"Obviously Lorenzo and I tried to argue with him and say let's go back down to 145 and defend your title, or if you really want the Diaz fight that bad, do it at 155. And he wants to fight at 170. Even his coach, Coach (John) Kavanagh, tried to get him to get off this rematch and off the 170-pound fight, but it's what he wanted."

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dana, Lorenzo and even his coach John Kavanagh tried to talk him out of it. I guess they all think what we think; that Conor got stopped in two rounds by Nate on 2 weeks notice and that a full camp Nate will most likely smash him even worse.

Agree, I just don't think Conor will stop him and therefore this will be true mental hurdle to overcome. Like DC, another loss and psychiatrist visits will be essential

The obsequious nature of Zuffa's language is quite hilarious. They are trying to pretend they give a shit about the 145 belt and not just go for the short-sighted cash grab but it makes them look even worse.

We know Conor calls the shots to a large degree, but try and show some dignity in public. Tried to talk him out of it? You're supposed to run the show, and you can just say no.

Absolutely. If Dana relly wanted to talk him out of it, he'd threaten to strip the belt, which would be a legitimate move. You're taking 2 fights outside of your title weightclass, give up the belt. It's not like not defending due to injury, McGregor is CHOOSING not to defend.

I don't know. I kinda like this fight. There's going to be a ton of buzz...again. And Conor did look really good up until he got tagged. Fuck it. I wanna see it again. I wanna see it 10 more times.

So if Conor wins, will there be a 3rd fight? If Nate loses he should be able to avenge the loss as well agreed?

The 145 belt has been a safety blanket for the UFC. They think if he loses at a higher weight class he can still fall back on being a champ. But it's just ridiculous. If he gets finished by Nate twice in a row, his stock is seriously shot and that belt isn't going to mean shit. Plus they can't protect him from Frankie and it may be 3 in a row and that's game over.

He can recover, but not by losing 2 in a row and thinking everyone will still treat him as the 'champ'. They should have made him give up the 145 belt and given him an exciting 155 match up that favours him to an extent. Conor vs winner of Barboza and Pettis was the fight to make. Cash in on Nate while he is hot with another opponent and be content knowing the Conor v Nate rematch is still there.

Even the fact that they bring out a 'comeback' video makes me sad. So many fighters get little or no push at all... After MC Gregor's first lose they go all out full damage control. It's a cool vid but has any other fighter had this type of thing coming off a lose. Like it or not.. It's a carnival sport and money talks more that meritocracy

I agree with that sentiment, but in the end, I'm just trying to watch fun fights. Sometimes the politicking in MMA gets tiresome.

Agree but so does the transparent bias. It's only a fun fight if you buy the hype and the hype is largely manufactured.

I don't agree with the idea that the hype is manufactured. Dude went on a absolute tear at 145. He showed up to fight even when his opponents pulled out. He deserves a little wiggle room in his fight negotiations.

He won an interim title (against a guy on two weeks notice) and a legit UFC world title. The guy is definitely an amazing fighter but the manufactured part is saying he went up two weight classes, making promos for his "comeback" after he got dismantled etc.

How they treated Mendes like it was a legit win after he gassed and then using that as a excuse to why king Conor lost is appalling. The fact that Frankie Aldo 2 is a interim title match is a slap in their face.

The fight alone is going to be fun for sure so i agree there. To keep the FW division waiting around some more for no good reason other than a select few profiting is shitty to see though. Has there been another time where an interim title has been created when the champ is still actively fighting?

As I've said before just own it, call it what it is, this is a fun fight AKA specticle. I'll enjoy it but I'm not buying the reasoning for all this instant rematch after a finish in under two and the creation of an interim belt.

Didn't know Aldo v Edgar was for an interim belt. That's interesting. It'll most likely evolve into the legit belt when Conor decides he's never cutting to 145 again.

Tough to say, he seems to have some great options ahead regardless.

If he beats Nate he's back in the mix for a run at the LW title or more money fights or a return to FW, I'm doubtful Nate would get the chance to avenge his loss if it goes that way. If he absolutely destroys Diaz then be prepared for more talk about Robbie or GSP

If Conor loses to Nate he still can now entertain LW money fights or maybe a contender bout at worst and still have FW as an option again.

The outcome of Frankie vs Jose will possibly help him pick his path too. If Frankie wins and Conor doesn't defend then the "Conors ducking Edgar" camp is in full effect but it'll be presented as "Not challenging enough, i cleaned it out and fight bigger men" or something similar. Jose winning could be the best chance at us seeing McG return to defend, I'd love to see Aldo and Edgar both get their shot personally but I'd guess the Jose fight will pay more and Conors already got the advantage.

So many option but either way the man will indeed be getting paid and he seems to be in a decent spot. I still see Diaz winning and if odds get better I'll be placing another bet in his favour.
