Khabib Nurmagomedov remains on UFC on FOX 19 card with short-notice opponent

UFC lightweight contender Khabib Nurmagomedovwill remain on next week’s UFC on FOX 19 lineup after all.

After recently losing opponent Tony Ferguson (20-3 MMA, 10-1 UFC) due to a lung injury, Nurmagomedov (22-0 MMA, 6-0 UFC) was left without a main-event opponent – though others, including Donald Cerrone (29-7 MMA, 16-4 UFC),were apparently interested.

Although he’ll no longer headline the card, Nurmagomedov, who’s No. 2 in the USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkie MMA lightweight rankings, will remain on the main card and fight late replacement and promotional newcomer Darrell Horcher (12-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC) in a 160-pound catchweight fight, UFC officials today toldFOXSports.com.

UFC on FOX 19 takes place April 16 at Amalie Arena in Tampa, Fla. The card airs on FOX after early prelims on UFC Fight Pass.

Was at this fight live. Afterwards the guy was on a stretcher for 10-15 mins.

Also his last fight in October he broke his arm mid fight and still got the KO. Styles make fights and I could see a KO happen in Khabib thinks this will be easy.

when I saw this I imeadiately thought Khabib is gonna take him down..which isn't a real surprise tbh, he wrestles everybody..whatever happens it's good on him to step up and take the fight, 155 needs some heavy hitters imo..and the UFC should hopefully return the favour and build him up a bit after

Hear nothing but good things about the guy, works hard, genuine dude good for him on getting this fight. I don't know him personally but wish him the best.

Agreed although even if he did win I'd want him to get a more normal fight..there's no substitute for experience and (I assume he's fairly young) he'll do well to get some more fights instead of being thrown to the wolves a second time..id watch, but it'd be best for his longevity I feel.
