That's actually hilarious.

*Joe Silva and Lorenzo meet in an office*
Joe Silva: Lorenzo, how are you liking that offer?
Lorenzo: it's a good offer. I like it.
JS: The lawyers?
Lorenzo: they think it looks good

*Dana busts in*
Dana: hey you fuckin goofs. What the fuck are you doing in here? I just told that clown shoe Rovell his source was wrong about this stupid fucking story about us selling the UFC. I mean what in the fuck? Right?

JS: go play outside Dana. We're talking.
haha also it could have gone like,

In a conference meeting room something like Dr.Evil's den,

Dr.Evil i mean Lorenzo: We're going to sell the company! Chinese company, Wrestling Company, and some No name Company offered us ton of money. We're going to do it but everyone needs to hush hush until the Deal Goes down. No.2!!!

NO.2 (Dana): yes sir?

Lorenzo: you know the deal. Commence the counter intelligence op! Deny all rumors. Got it!?

Dana: Yes sir!

Meeting Ends with

Dana immediately tweets: Darren Rovell is full of shit. POS scumbag liar.

We're all assuming that if the UFC is sold, Dana White is leaving with the Fertitas. It's very likely that Dana stays on as president. If you were buying the UFC, you'd want to keep him on if you had half a brain in your head. So it's very likely that we don't see this dramatic change we're envisioning: new name on the door, and Dana keeps running the UFC business as usual.

Gotta wonder who would want to buy the UFC fight now?

Morale is at an all time low due to the Reebok deal and pay issues. Fighters drop out and ruin events left right and centre. Your biggest money generator, Conor McGregor, is currently feuding with the company. Your second biggest money generator, Ronda Rousey, is likely nearing the end of her career.

It could be a good move for the sport in general if it's biggest international promotion is bought by an organisation who can effectively manage it's growth potential.

However, I do have fears that the interested parties could include the likes of Vince McMahon. Whilst an immensely successful achiever, somebody of his ilk would run it with a similar primary focus - money.

On top of the speculation, I would add that the UFC still haven't made any new deal for broadcast rights in the UK as yet. Perhaps the prospect of selling the UFC has been in the pipeline for longer than we thought.

Ultimately, it needs to be sold to an organisation that will concentrate on pushing the brand forward for the greater good of the sport. They will also need to bring with them a greater level of respect for the fighters who represent and power the brand.

If this is all true, then it could be the best thing for the advancement of the promotion and the sport in general. That said, it could equally be a continuation of the stagnation in the growth of the UFC and could subsequently lead to it's demise.

Fingers crossed eh?

Yeah I mean it could go either way, huh? We could get this awesome new owner who cleans up the UFC and treats the fighters right, and makes MMA a respectable business to get into.... or we could get some fucking bean-counter who has no passion for the sport and no ideas on how to push the brand forward.

I'm a pessimistic guy myself, so I imagine the second option is a lot more likely unfortunately.

Having done a little research, unlike my previous post, I now believe that there will only be one winner in this bidding phase.

I believe that the Dalian Wanda Group will buy the UFC as since November 2015 they've had a dedicated sports division for assets in sports. They have been lurking around waiting for opportunities to acquire big brands and I reckon they will be desperate to make a massive impact with the purchase of the UFC. Fundamentally, they are all about money which does represent a concern. However, they have been making substantial moves within the world of sport and clearly mean business with their intentions. Below is a list of their moves since Jan 2015:

On January 20, 2015, it was reported that Wang Jianlin was buying a 20% stake in the Spanish La Liga Football/Soccer club Atlético Madrid. The purchase was finalised March 31, 2015, when the company Wanda Madrid Investment, a subsidiary of Dalian Wanda Group, officially become a partial owner of Atlético Madrid after gaining control of 726.707 shares, representing a 20% ownership stake. The purchase price was €44,983,163.30, or €61.90 per share.

In February 2015, Dalian Wanda won an auction to purchase Infront Sports & Media, a sports marketing company based in Zug, Switzerland, for $1.2 billion. Infront distributes broadcasting rights for some of the world’s biggest sporting events; for example, it has the exclusive sales rights to broadcast FIFA's events from 2015 to 2022, including the 2018 and 2022 World Cups. According to Wang Jianlin, "the acquisition is expected to help boost sports in China and increase Wanda’s influence in global sports".

In August 2015, Dalian Wanda announced that it was purchasing the World Triathlon Corporation, a US-based company promoting and licensing various triathlon competitions, for $650 million.

They are clearly very asset-driven, but they work hard at maximising the growth and reach of every commodity they have. By creating a dedicated sports division, they signalled their intent to make truly significant moves to establish their already decent portfolio as one with a very hefty clout.

This buyer could represent genuine progress for the brand (especially bringing it to the mainstream in China), but it could also be catastrophic if the managing of the asset does not bring in the expected returns.

Like what mistakes? The Reebok deal? That's a contract signed sealed and delivered. What other mistakes? Pay? You think Coker is going to pay UFC fighters more all of a sudden? Why doesn't he start with his own company?

Seriously, if you just plunked down 4 billion to buy the UFC, who do you want running it: the guy who turned in mainstream, knows all the ins and outs, turned it from 2 mil to 4 bil company, a guy with more global recognition than 99% of the UFC roster... or Scott Coker, who has had decent success, had a few MMA companies go under, ect.

Lol, I just typed up a reply rattling off random Dana White denials/lies to add to this one

But I accidentally closed the tab :( My point still stands, dude is probably full of it, because this has been floating around for months now. Maybe even a year. Not the old reports, this particular one, about the Chinese company

I actually hope Dana is telling the truth though.
Take it from a fellow long poster. Type in a notetaking app then copy and paste. Good also if you blog and want to reuse themes.

I don't think the critics have any idea how much Dana does, and when he's NOT doing it and neither is his replacement, gonna be a shock to the system and most fighters are really gonna suffer. Also Dana does have a lot of connections and forged relationships in the industry regardless of his personality, which is something else I think is too often overlooked.

I would never vote for Coker over Dana......

Dana White to @dpshow on possible sale: "If I'm in the middle of a deal right now there's a lot of confidentiality." - Darren Rovell just Tweeted.

So Dana's just trying to keep it under his hat at this point.

And fighters are opting out for other organizations on top of that. And more are likely to follow. A talent drain if you will.

And you just finished the most profitable year in the company's history.

The sport is as popular as it ever was, and it is gaining notoriety in the mainstream. I think it is an extremely good time to buy.
