On what was a momentous night for the bantamweight division in Las Vegas, Caraway had the biggest win of his career, as he handed the much-hyped Aljamain Sterling his first career defeat.

With four wins in his past five fights, Caraway believes he deserves either a title shot or a crack at one of the top names in the division. And he doesn't believe Garbrandt is quite yet on that level.

"I'm not saying [Garbrandt] wasn't talented, but, he wasn't in the Top 15 at all," Caraway said on The MMA Hour. "He had a good performance and all that, but I think that would be going backwards just from where I'm trying to go.

The way Caraway sees it, he just beat the fight ranked No. 4 in the division in Sterling, so Garbrant, despite his impressive performance, would be a step back.

"He just broke into the top 10," Caraway said. "I beat an undefeated guy that night as well. The No. 4 guy in the world. I want one of those top guys,I feel like I earned to fight for the belt. I beat the No. 6 guy before hat, I beat the No. 4 guy. I think Garbrandt, maybe one more top 10 win and he'll be ready for top five guys."

dumbfounded by 'turns down' used in headline of article, its a hypothetical conversation about a potential match that was never offered

Getting sick of hearing about all these guys picking and choosing their opponents and trying to play match maker. Fight whoever is put in front of you.

In a real sport with real rankings this isn't even a problem.champ fights 1 contender and 2 fights 3 etc .only in mma do they make it up as they go and allow certain popular fighters to pick and choose and duck at will

In boxing they finds ways to get around rankings by making several belts

True, though I feel the ranking system of the ufc to be less than above board.

If other sports worked like the ufc the Yankees would play for the world series every year and the Stanley cup would be the new York rangers vs the la kings every time to draw the most money no matter who really deserves it

Seems like a legit point to me. Cody looked amazing, but Mr Tate beat the undefeated #4 guy. If Sterling would have won that fight he would have definitely been in consideration for the title. Caraway beat him, he should get the same consideration.

Bisping didn't want the Whittaker fight for the very same thinking and it played out perfect. Nobody is ducking shit, it's good business.

I do not agree, it seems the ufc has been picking fights that they think theyre guy can win, they rarely use the ranking system properly. rankings "should" work in a fashion that had a winner in the top 5 fight another top 5, then have a winner in the top ten fight atleast once against another 6-10 ranked guy before getting a crack at a loser in the top 5.

If i was a fighter after seeing all of these other guys get bigger fights or higher ranked fights because they decide to talk there way into them, i guess i would to. Cody is pretty good and will fight for the title but he hasn't fought anyone who has really consistently fought top 10 guys. Caraway at this point should be asking for higher ranked guys and so should Cody, but both should only fight the guy within 3 spots of they're ranking.

Rankings & Fight selections shouldnt be subjective unless theyre being bent for the fans not the company.

I'm not sure Caraway is in the position to be turning down fights.

I was able to follow some of Bryan's preparation for his fight with Sterling by adding Miesha's Snapchat. That's a problem, for him if he wants to develop a fan base that'll have his back when he makes these types of statements. Relying on rankings alone isn't guaranteed to get it done in the UFC.

He's about to get skipped for a title fight buy garbrabnt by not fighting him. There's a bit push behind Cody with a bunch of people interested in seeing that matchup. It's also marketable. Mr tate doesn't have the same. Beating Cody would put him in that position.
