Kimbo Slice was told by doctors that he needed a heart transplant in the days before his death Monday, according to a report Tuesday afternoon from the Sun Sentinel in Florida.

Slice was in the process of being transferred to a facility in Cleveland where he'd be put on an organ donors list when he died at around 7:30 p.m. local time Monday, per a report sent from the hospital to the Broward County Medical Examiner's office and obtained by the paper.

Slice, whose real name is Kevin Ferguson, had been at Northwest Medical Center in Margate, Fla., for three days. He was admitted June 3 after complaining of severe abdominal pain, shortness of breath and nausea, the Sun Sentinel reported. Ferguson was diagnosed with congestive heart failure and a liver mass and was placed on a ventilator in intensive care.

I love and respect the guy for who he is, but did he abuse steroids that destroyed his heart? All speculation obviously, but am I the only one asking this in their heads somewhere?

Depends on the compounds he was using, and how much of them. 150-200mg of test every 10-14 days is actually good for an aging male, as natural testosterone levels start to decrease naturally in a male's 30's. But if he was cycling in compounds like EPO, Winstrol, Trenbolone (this one is especially harsh on the heart), Masterone, etc...then yeah, it certainly could have played a role.

I've taken testosterone and understand what you're saying. I don't think these are mild TRT dosages, I suspect he and Dada too probably got into some serious stuff. This reminds me of pro wrestlers and how early they die, Mr. Perfect being one example of many.

Yeah, if he was cycling a cocktail of compounds with 500-750mg of test every 7-10 days...that's certainly dangerous.

Damn so he knew his time was coming :(
I wonder if the stress of hearing that type of diagnosis/prognosis could be enough to trigger a heart attack. @Splinty, what's your interpretation (if you can offer a short one) on stress's impact, if any, on heart disease?

I wonder how the hell he got cleared to fight 2 months ago. That is seriously concerning.

This is a long conversation. I'm going to have to cut short as I need to run.

It sounds like he has had a long history of underlying heart disease and develop severe congestive heart failure. In this case I'm sure the diagnosis was already set. The probably ultrasound of his heart to find out that it was pumping out some minimal fraction compared to normal.

There are many underlying reasons that this could happen.

Regarding stress on the heart and famously there's a diagnosis call tokatsubo syndrome, sometimes called broken heart syndrome.

While there is much controversy on whether this really exists as of late, traditionally it is thought to be a result of significant emotional or clinical stress.

I hope this coupled with the Dada situation starts to change the way we view things as a fanbase. The fun fights are cool, but this isn't a celebrity tennis match. Getting in a 15 minute fight in a cage is serious business and should only be done by committed, physically able professionals. Unfortunately, those fun fights were a BIG chunk of Bellator's bottom line. Kimbo's death may impact them in huge way, which sucks because I enjoy their stable of legitimate fighters. Hopefully they can survive and still be competitive in the market.
