Anderson Silva and the Brazilian Confederation of Taekwondo (CBTkd) reached an agreement for the athlete to participate in the selective for the Olympics in 2016. This week, Spider sent a letter to the president of the organization is making available to join the national team, and the proposal was well received at the institution. Suspended from the UFC after being caught in doping tests, Anderson has started preparation for the internal competition for jobs.

Considered one of the greatest fighters in MMA history, Anderson began his career in the martial arts taekwondo and not by chance have in your major curriculum blows from the fight. It weighs 84 pounds and would have as its main competitor in the category + 80kg athlete Oliveira Lucas.

For the 2016 Games, the selection has four guaranteed places (two male and two in the female) for hosting the event, and four can be conquered by the position of Brazil in the ranking. Last week, the Brazilian Confederation announced that, following a meeting with the Rio 2016 Committee, it was decided that the first contemplated weight category would be just the male heavyweight. Internal selective, defining the names in each category, will be at the beginning of next year.

Suspended from the UFC after having been caught for doping after the fight with Nick Diaz at UFC 183 in January this year, Anderson would be judged by the Nevada Athletic Commission on April 21, but asked for postponement in May . It is estimated that the fighter should be suspended for a period ranging from nine months to two years.

The Brazilian Confederation of Taekwondo is also monitoring this issue . In an interview with GloboEsporte.com on Monday, the technical director of the selection, Alexandre Lima, explains that even with different regulations, the case should be taken to the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).

- The Nevada State Athletic Commission does not follow the criteria of WADA. Not the same substances are respected, not the laboratories are accredited. In principle, the doping of the Athletic Commission is not taken into consideration for WADA. But today, in fact, was not the hammer, he had no effective punishment. From the moment you have, we will make an appointment at WADA to see his situation. From our understanding, would not have connection. But we would make a formal consultation - explained the technical director.

Personally, I hope he retires from MMA and focuses his attention to other forms of competition. The failed drug test did his MMA legacy no good.

Well he might pull it off, being an elite fighter and with taekwondo background he probably knows alot of Taekwondo moves and just needs to polish all of it.
It's not like he is a white belt walking in to a MCdojo, i actually love that we get to see him do something else to entertain us.

Speed and reaction times are so important in Taekwondo, that I feel he will be at a massive disadvantage due to age.

I have no knowledge of taekwondo, so you're probably right but stil would be great to see him in the olympics.

He should just shoot a double leg and take the other guy down right away, pound him out with punches, then claim he didn't know the rules in his high pitched whimsical voice while smiling and shrugging.

Punches to the body, but none to the head.
Interesting. He does have good bodywork which he uses selectively, albeit in combinations. Different beast here---not sure how well his skills will apply. I know TKD is rougher than people give it credit for, but the Olympic version is a bit of a game of tag.

This really came out of the blue---I hope it happens and that he does well. Could benefit the UFC if Anderson makes a good showing.

Am I missing something here? How can this even be an option at the moment while he's awaiting an outcome for confirmed PED use?
