Mixed martial arts promoter the Ultimate Fighting Championship has retained Washington, D.C. firm Farragut Partners for lobbying help on Capitol Hill in response to a House resolution aimed at regulating full-contact combat sports.

According to June lobbying registration documents, Las Vegas-based UFC, which is the world’s leading promoter of mixed martial arts and generated a record-breaking $600 million in 2015, has launched a lobbying effort to communicate with Congress its position on the Muhammad Ali Act, which is currently facing amendments.

The question is what body exists that can afford to counter lobby? None. This MMAFA needs to get off the ground.

They are no different than the culinary union....
The lengths they will go to in an attempt to prevent fighters from having their rights protected, is disgusting. Use the money you're spending fighting this shit, to increase fighter pay, create fighter retirement plans. etc.

They want to be the big league like NFL but without taking any concessions. And they hide behind the fact that they're a private company, they use it as an excuse. Also when they kick the press out. The Ali act means that Dana's job becomes obsolete.

At one point Dana White had aspirations of being a successful boxer himself. He has to know how hard it is for these athletes and what they have to sacrifice. It just blows my mind how little sympathy or respect he has for them.

Maybe I'm understanding it wrong but basically it would kill the UFC as it is, of course they are going to fight that.

Some things in there are good, other things I am iffy about, what about the belts? And what about international fights anyway? I really do not favour the boxing-system.

Have the UFC strong but more transparency, also a union or association for the fighters, and we are good.

I don't like the current way that the bill is written. I actually think that it would have a lot of negative effects on MMA as a whole.

I also acknowledge that things need to change to protect the fighters going forward.

Does/Did the Ali act contribute to the current state of boxing as a business/industry, also from the perspective of athlete safety and fairness in pay and matchmaking?

If so, they do seriously need to keep it out of MMA.
