Demetrious Johnson is in favor of most of the UFC's new weight-cutting guidelines, but he refuses to meet one of them.

UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson does cut a fair amount of weight before his fights, but has never had any issues making weight in his career. So when the UFC decided to institute new weight-cutting guidelines, Johnson was generally pretty supportive of them - except for one item. The promotion would like fighters to be within eight percent of their fighting weight on the Tuesday before their fight.

Mighty Mouse isn't down with that, and he told reporters backstage at UFC 199 all about it (via MMA Junkie):

"Not f**king happening, bro."

"I’ve never missed weight, not once, I’ve never had a scare, so I will come in weighing 138, 139," he said.

When asked…

This isn't about whether you've had any problems it's about trying to avoid them.

I would like to see weight cutting severly diminished.

I say, on fight night the fighters re-weigh. If they weigh over the next highest weight class, that is the division they fight in next. A 125er weighing 139 on fight night fights in the 135lb division next fight.

I see no reason why a fighter weighing in at one weight class on fight night is allowed to fight in a lower weight class.

They don't pull fighters who aren't within 8%, they just monitor them carefully or some shit.

He'll be fine doing what he's always done.

I long for the day he actually has to face some serious competition.

He needs that Cruz rematch, now that would be competition, and an awesome fight I might add.
I doubt it ever happens. Cruz won't drop a class. DJ won't go up and I seriously doubt will take a catch weight.

I bet he could move up to 145 and win the belt. He would be way to fast and he would get his power back if he didnt have to cut.

As good as Mighty Mouse is I think he would be destroyed at 145. That's two classes up and he is 5'3" fighting guys like Aldo who are 5'7" and McGregor who is 5'9". Two weight class jump would be a stretch DJ

It doesn't happen as much in the UFC but holy hell have I seen it happen so much on regional shows.

It's sad and worst you still have to make weight if you want to fight while some fat ass doesn't cut anything and loses 5% of their purse. I see a huge problem with that.

What else is there to do for DJ? IF he is smart he'll consider. There are plenty of fights for Cruz, for DJ, not really.

I'm not sure he is worried about "what else." I think he is content being Superman at current weight class

I think he should be worried, as the champion of his weightclass. It is the least competitive weightclass right now. Not enough talent.

I agree with all that but recent interviews and article lead me to believe he feels otherwise.

Am I going mad or did they do a double weigh in years ago? Was it Belfort? Or someone at either middleweight or LHW. I remember it happening.

I think monitoring is a really good thing, no need for penalties but they should test guys as a baseline in camp, out of camp, weigh in day, fight day. Just get an idea of different fighters reaction to weight cutting. It should be taken into account on medical suspensions, things like that arent considered. If they were fighters would have to keep within a limit to stop them being suspended for longer. Means they get paid to fight, no problems, but they get an extra 30-60 day suspension if they are like a raisin on the scale, which would suck for them.

Can you imagine the keytones in Hector's piss when he was at 70. Or Anthony Johnson at 70. Shit would've run a truck for 50 miles.

I just lmao everytime I think of an adult male walking around at 135lbs thinking 'gonna cut weight, can't compete against guys this big'
