Conor McGregor has brought in BJJ standout Dillon Danis to help him prepare for his UFC 202 rematch with Nate Diaz.

It has been an interesting few months for Conor McGregor. Firstly, he was choked out by Nate Diaz at UFC 196, then he was booked to an immediate rematch at UFC 200, before entering a dispute with the UFC and being pulled from the card. After weeks of deliberations, McGregor vs. Diaz 2 has finally been rebooked for UFC 202 and Conor McGregor has kicked off his preparations by bringing in a grappling phenom.

....
While Dillon Danis isn’t the biggest name in the world of grappling, he is one of the most technically sound young grapplers in the business. Danis, a black belt under the…

Dillon is not a good simulation of Nate's style, but is an awesome competitor in his own right.

This is interesting because Conor's coach John Kavanagh is a fantastic BJJ player already.

Kron > Danis

But really its cool to see that McGregor is trying to bring in as many great dudes as he can to improve. Unfortunately as mentioned above, Im afraid it may not matter

I believe he took Nate's criticism of 'who do you train with' to heart. Conor's been searching out pro boxers, now grappling stars, and I can only assume he has been working with new wrestling coaches while he has been in the States.

I was going to say it's too late but then think at least he's listened and is working towards something instead of being stubborn thinking he doesn't need any help

Yeah but there is no way Kron is lending his services to McGregor ahead of him fighting a Diaz brother. Kron is practically the third Diaz.

Not gonna help him beat Mayweather... :D Funny how fast that talk ended.

Not gonna help against Nate either.

I just meant bjj in general.
I was more referring to the fact that Diaz is working with Kron so while yes it is a good thing for McGregor to bring in Danis, Diaz is working with more experienced and tougher partners in training. I definitely didn't expect Kron to work with him ever

Conor is trying, But none of this will matter. Nate's bjj skills are honed through many many years on the mat against the very best and Conor thinks he can bring in some ok bjj player for couple months to counter that?

Same thing with boxing, cardio and all of the stuff Nate is better at. You can prepare and be lil better vs someone who lives that type of life style will def show the difference. One is only an act and the other is just being.

One can make the case for Belcher bringing in leglock guys vs Paul Harris but Paulharris is a leg lock guy who only goes for Leglocks so learn how to counter that isn't such a bad idea.

While Conor is trying to get better at all aspects of MMA, so is Nate. If they both got little better from last time they've fought, 202 will look pretty much the same.

Nate has full camp this time and so Nate gets a booster.

I don't care if he trains with Rickson Gracie himself every minute of the day from now until the fight, if that fight hits the ground he is getting embarrassed.

he hired a pure sport grappler with not even any BJJ for MMA teaching background?

considering his resource$ and the high profile nature of the job, an unproven choice makes no sense

Fuck Conor. If he got hit by an asteroid, I wouldn't care.

Edit: Opinion is fine but please do so respectfully. Thanks - L

Doesn't he already train with Gunnar? Isnt he a BJJ star, or did he get his BB taken away after the Maia fight?

This is interesting because Conor's coach John Kavanagh is a fantastic BJJ player already.
And Gunnar is one of his main training partners.

Side note: If I was in Conors position, I would have attemted to hire Maia.

Hiring Danis is a good move and may help him win the fight....... If he can also hire Danis to fight with him in the cage that night. 2 against 1 and they MAY have a chance.

conor showed 3 flaws in that fight - heart, conditioning and grappling. only 2 of those can be fixed
