Anthony Pettis will have his featherweight debut in Vancouver, Canada, against Charles Oliveira, on August 27.

Anthony Pettis will look for redemption in a different weight class. Fox Sports broke out the news that “Showtime” will make his featherweight debut in August and Brazilian jiu-jitsu blackbelt, Charles Oliveira will be the one to welcome him into the new division.

After three losses in a row to the likes of Rafael dos Anjos, Eddie Alvarez and Edson Barboza, Pettis (18-5) hasn’t won a fight since his submission win over Gilbert Melendez back at UFC 181 in December 2014. The victory was the last one in Anthony’s five-fight winning streak that included wins over Jeremy Stephens, Joe Lauzon, Donald Cerrone and Benson Henderson, as well.

Although Oliveira (21-5 (1)) recently…

Bad first fight for Pettis. This could be one and done then move back up. He's gonna get broken.

do you guys think RDA ruined pettis?

or do you think he just wasn't that great to start with?

I feel bad that he's going downhill... wish he had better boxing, it would compliment his kicks well. barboza won that fight so easily just with a left hook. i hope he wins his 145lb debut

I want to see Pettis vs Aldo still. We were robbed of that fight a few years ago.

Damn you gotta feel for Pettis. Not an easy fight to get welcomed to 145 at all. Matter of fact, I think Oliveira beats him. If that happens, then what's Pettis' next step?

it may happen sooner than you think, if pettis wins at 145 and aldo loses to edgar.

the way i see it, its still somewhat of a superfight. additionally, the ufc may toss aldo to pettis to see if one of them can get back to their old ways and create hype again for the former champion. also, its an ex champ vs ex champ match up. maybe well even see edgar vs mcgregor headline it too.

I used to be a huge Pettis fan. Than he tried to screw over TJ Grant BEFORE he got injured for a fight in his hometown. It was an exceptional display of his character or lack there of. Since then,I will always root to see him get his limbs broken and his face battered.

I think RDA really hurt Pettis, and then they gave him a terrible match-up in Alvarez. After that, I think a different guy fought Barbosa. A guy on a two fight losing streak, not a guy who was just on the Wheaties box.

I like this move for Pettis, as he can have a bit of a confidence boost. I also like this fight because it is a legit test for him at 145, and it creates another legit FW contender with whoever wins. Good matchmaking all around imo.

Honestly he's a great all-time LW, but you gotta look at BJ and Frankie historically, and I am not sure we have ever seen a lightweight like RDA before. I think when it is all said and done RDA might be the GOAT FW, which is crazy considering how badly I expected Pettis to maul him even after seeing the Diaz fight.

EDIT: Even Benson could get some recognition in this category. Damn. Top LW ever is a tough choice to make.
