Report - UFC 194 likely to be booked at MSG

Mixed martial arts (MMA) may not be legal in the state of New York (yet), but that hasn't stopped Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) from booking a year-end pay-per-view (PPV) event for Madison Square Garden, expected to be UFC 194 on Dec. 5, 2015.

Nothing wrong with a little optimism.

"We have a date," UFC President Dana White told Newsday. "You know we're going to have a lot of New Yorkers fighting on the New York card," White said. "We do that in every market we go in. Plus, the first ever at the Garden, I mean, some of these guys' dreams are to fight at the Garden."

I'm all for mma in NY, but I wonder how much money they spent fighting to make it legal. Probably millions and it's not like they are breaking into some untapped market. MSG is 10 miles away from where the UFC will be held tomorrow in Newark,NJ.

Certainly can't hurt to book a date! With the Legislature coming back from break on Monday, and the budget deal in place, the MMA legalization effort will be front and center. With the way the process is structured, though, it would only take 7 Assembly members to stop the bill from getting to the floor for a vote. Silver may be gone, but it remains to be seen if he is also forgotten.
