"Coach John Kavanagh has raised prospect of MMA star seeking equity

John Kavanagh, the coach of Irish mixed martial arts fighter Conor McGregor, has said he expects that the sport’s breakout athlete would ask for a stake in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) if it was sold.

With rumours circulating of a $4.2 billion UFC sale, Kavanagh raised the prospect of McGregor seeking equity from any new owner.

“Conor will have thought of this and I am sure, when he is sitting down with his new overlords, he will have that conversation,” Kavanagh said. McGregor is among the most popular fighters with the mixed martial arts promotion company, with 3.7 million likes on Facebook and 1.8 million followers on Twitter.

Kavanagh also said that he believed that a $100 million fight between McGregor and boxing champion Floyd Mayweather would happen, but only if revenues were split evenly between both men.

“There was talk that Conor would get $7 million and Floyd would get the rest of it. It will be an even share or Conor will not do it . . . There is no one generating the type of media that Conor is,” Kavanagh said.

“It would have to be an even split. Conor is not going to take it if Floyd is getting more than him. Floyd needs Conor more than Conor needs Floyd right now.”

Kavanagh said he believed that McGregor could beat Mayweather, despite the boxer having a record of 49 wins and no defeats."

Lol @ floyd needing conor, or anyone for that matter. Dude is worth over $600m, is undefeated in 49 fights, is the greatest fighter of his time, the list goes on. Even split? Not on my watch. Good way to avoid the embarrassment though.

This has to be an onion article. It quotes Kavanagh saying Conor has to sit down with his overlords.

I guess if Conor get a piece of the pie, Nate goes in and gets 2 pieces?

If Conor hopes to have any bargaining power at all he better hope the sale goes through before he gets his ass kicked by Nate again.

I really enjoyed Conor's antics and enjoyed watching him back up his shit talking. It was great to have an Irishman to root for. I wish he would tell his team to shut the fuck up and stop being delusional. I think he is having the same issue that Ronda had. So much money and fame that you start believing all the yes men around you and buy into the hype way to much.

Just like the Diaz boys, we now see why he is the way he is.

After the UFC builds their disastrous failure into a thriving nearly mainstream sport, a guy who shows up at the eleventh hour thinks he created it all.

Not how it works junior. Not how it works.
