Whatever reason McGregor's punches are different, they have made him his sport's newest darling, the culmination of a two-year rise from obscurity to headliner to crossover star. He will fight Brazilian champion Jose Aldo for the UFC's featherweight belt in July, and White believes it will be his organization's biggest fight of the year, "a global event," in large part because of McGregor's ability to seem more giant than he is.

But the twenty-six-year-old McGregor doesn't want to be regarded as peerless in only a single facet of his occupation—as just a puncher. "I don't look at a man who's expert in one area as a specialist," he says. "I look at him as a rookie in ten other areas. If you can box, what happens if I grab hold of your legs? If you put me face-to-face with Floyd Mayweather—pound-for-pound boxing's best—if I fought Floyd, I would kill him in less than thirty seconds. It would take me less than thirty seconds to wrap around him like a boa constrictor and strangle him."

McGregor sees the human body the way he sees fights, the way he sees this New York bar in which he's sheltering from the cold, the way he sees existence: Each is a collection of openings and avenues, roadblocks and hurdles. He always sits, as he is sitting now, with his back to a corner; he has scouted the exits; he has several routes of possibility mapped out in his cartographer's brain, every available advance and retreat. "I have a self-defense mind," he says. "I've had it all my life."

I don't disagree with him but it would be same same sort of statement if Jordan were to brag about how he could dunk on Gretzky, different sport with different rules and objectives. Now if they were to play PBFs game then Conor would be the rookie getting smashed.

I find it funny that Conor criticizes others in his division who mention his name to get headlines, generate buzz or get noticed yet here he is doing the exact same thing except its about a guy in a different sport who he'll likely never face and is genuinely living the life Conor claims to want as far as money and fame. Keep winning fights in the UFC and don't coattail ride on others names who are super successful or you're just as guilty as those you call out. Looking forward to your next fight Mr. McGregor :D

Mayweather is sort of a gimme since hes a small weight class.

So let's take a prime Roy Jones Jr. 175lbs and hapoy to fight heavier...and right there in the P4P rankings.

Just how small of a mma fighter could beat a boxer of his size and caliber? Could conor? Could mighty mouse? Could rousey?
Could the whole thing get turned on its head with 6 months of training by said boxer?

I love the Jordan/Gretzky analogy. Its perfect. But I also can't help but wonder where that cut off is of being really good (like on another planet good) at boxing and how little MMA could overcome that size advantage. This is the question that launched the UFC after all.

Good question for sure. I think it wouldn't take an elite guy even if smaller because again its just not the same game. Its like when a guy like Overeem keeps getting criticized for being a K1 champ but gets KOd in MMA. Its a different game, equipment, stragety and goals. I don't follow boxing much at all do I can't toss any names out but just for fun I'd say a boxing champion in his prime weighing around the 200lbs with a year of MMA training would still lose to a welter weight ranked 8-10 in a catch weight fight. I think that's a solid bet. Reverse the rolls and same would apply IMO. As far as the Rousey debate it makes my head hurt thinking about it.

While it may sound corny, but it is saying these outlandish things like this that cause this interview to be from Esquire, rather than MMAjunkie.

The real question still remains...how fast would Ronda finish Mayweather? By the way, that fake bank vault photo kind of says it all.

Despite the headline, this is actually one of the most well written interviews I've ever read about an MMA fighter. Being a Conor Mcgregor, and MMA fan, I didn't learn anything new, but it was still a very good read. I'd recommend it to anyone who is a fan of Mcgregor, or would like to get a glimpse into his mindset written very eloquently.

It's a good way to get attention, and the fact is, he would. Obviously the argument is always the same "in boxing the boxer wins, in MMA or anything else the MMA fighter wins"

But Conor knows what he's doing and is generate press. If anything, I'm sure he studies Floyd. Greatness usually recognizes greatness. Floyd and the UFC/fighters have traded barbs in the media for years.

I'm a gigantic fan of both sports. Comments like this are just the norm IMO. I'd rather read this than read about how Rousey would outbox Floyd or something, lol. Sadly, that has really been said, by a lot of people. Sigh

BTW did anyone listen to what Dillashaw said about Conor? The article didn't explain as well as the actual video. The goofball, fat ass web guy that was running the show he was on kept trying to talk shit on Conor and call him all sorts of playground names. But TJ straight up admitted to Conor and to the camera that he was "jealous of the attention and money Conor is getting". He said that verbatim.

I can't blame him, because he's the champ you know? But IMO, it takes a man to admit something like that. TJ followed it up by saying he's gonna be there eventually through hard work, etc. Sadly, when you look at lighter weight guys like Mighty Mouse.. no matter how great they are, they just don't draw unless they have either a huge personality or a huge following. Conor has both.

I'd love to see TJ make good money in this sport. He's an awesome fighter and seems like a cool dude too. I love watching him fight, man. Guys like Conor and Floyd, though, they know how to work the media. Conor literally has an old school pro wrestlers personality, and honestly to me, it's refreshing. I'm sick of the same cookie cutter interviews every single time from random faceless fighters. Conor is a breath of fresh air. I don't compare him to Chael either.. Chael was stealing old Billy Graham lines and exaggerating. Conor actually believes the crazy shit he says and backs it up so far, too.

I am glad there's only one Conor and one Chael out there. I am NOT glad that we have gotten tons of wannabes, even women like Angela Magana and Bec.. that's all a result of Chael/Conor's success.. But anyway. I like Conor, I like Floyd.. I also love Fedor, Cain.. guys that are humble and just beat ass. I like both sides of the coin really, just depends on a lot of different things. Winning all your fights with extremely impressive performances, like Conor, sure helps.

Lol. I'm sorry but that dude came off horribly on that particular bit. TJ was giving McGregor respect for making money, and saying he is a good fighter, saying the Aldo fight will be close etc

Fat, I mean Stud Boy, kept awkwardly repeating "naw fuck that. He's a loser. I think he's a fucking loser. He just eats potatoes. That's all he does, is eat potatoes and have famines. He has a little Irish cock, yeah. TJ is going to shove his anglo saxon cock down his throat"

He literally said all of those tings. Lol. He kept repeating "no that guy is a loser". to me it's just like, if he's a loser for making more money in his early UFC career than anybody, what are you, brah?

YA DIG. I'm sure he's alright but he came off as a smug goof on that one. You know that staying about throwing stones in a glass house n shit...

Lol, but nah, it only came off awkward because everyone else was being cool about it and he was instigating, with his bare feet on camera

Yea, i hear ya. He tries to play a heel wrestling persona on the show and talks shit to everyone that calls in lol. He certainly can be a dick, but I find him amusing at times. He is a fat bastard now, but was NJ state wrestling champion and NCAA tournament qualifier.

People call in complaining about him wearing no socks lol.

It was actually the first time I saw the show. I checked it out cuz of the Conor thing but ended up listening to it all. I liked it a lot. I'm always looking to hear new MMA podcasts. I feel like I can't get enough.

Any episodes you'd recommend? I heard this one and the most recent one with Faber. I am thinking of starting from the beginning and listening to all the ones with names I recognize/care about (mainly TJ and Faber). Would love to know if any episodes stand out as being really great. I like the call in part too. If I can catch them live, and Faber or TJ is on, I would totally call in.

I'm definitely gonna do so next time it happens and I know about it. They seem pretty cool and funny to me. One caller named Mumbles was funny and Faber was super nice to him haha. Faber has always seemed like a super nice dude to fans. When i saw him fight, he stayed forever at weigh ins to sign autos/take pics with everyone despite being starving from weight cut. Then the next night when he was on his way out of the cage after winning, he stopped and took pics/signed shit for at least 20-30 people on his way to the back locker room.

I know people think he's like a surfer douche bag or something.. I don't agree really. Always has seemed like a good dude. The thing he did for his sister when she was in the accident confirms that to me. Always like watching him fight too. It's a shame the 145 division wasn't in the UFC when he was on top, he deserves the title of UFC champ during that time since he was far and away the best 145er in the world. I miss WEC

Honestly, there's not much mma talk on the show lol. Justin Buchholz is typically the co-host. He used to fight in the UFC and corners most TAM Guys. He will talk about some serious mma stuff at times, but it's typically Stud Buy berating callers or giving their regular callers life advice, like 14 year old Mumbles lol. I've watched every episode, its fun, but dont expect a lot of mma insight. The episodes with a lot of guests on the show are typically good. The one with Joe Warren is wild. He is a lunatic.

Even in a boxing match I think McGregor would dominate Mayweather. He is one of the hardest hitting guys in the MMA today if not the top of his class. May not beat him in 30 seconds but I bet he would still win. Mayweather says Conors a joke but look at his last fight against Ortiz..mayweather is a puss and did not deserve that win. The ref messed up that match but doesn't change the fact mayweather took a cheap shot to win and did not deserve it.

I'm one of the biggest Mcgregor fans around here, but to say you think he would beat Mayweather in a boxing match, you're either high or delusional.

He boxed before MMA and UFC. In a points system, yes I think McGregor would win. To be honest, I think that would the biggest fight ever in any sports history and I would love to see it. Mayweather is good I give him that, he wouldn't be as big as he is if he sucked, just saying to call Conor a joke is funny seeing how I bet he would never step in the ring with him. Not even in a boxing match. Maybe we should start a petition for this match and see if we can get them to fight. What do you think? Wouldn't you love to see that match?
