Garbrandt fires back at Cruz: I’ll ‘wire your jaw shut’

Tensions continue to rise between Cody Garbrandt and UFC bantamweight champ Dominick Cruz.

Although Cody ‘No Love’ Garbrandt is ranked as the No. 8 bantamweight in the world, it’s looking increasingly likely that the Team Alpha Male product will challenge Dominick Cruz for the title. That’s if he gets past Takeya Mizugaki, who he will take on at UFC 202 on Aug. 20.

Cruz, who reclaimed the 135-pound belt after beating T.J. Dillashaw in January, had some harsh words for Garbrandt last week.

“I think people want to see it because he’s knocking people out, and I’ll give him that,” Cruz said. “But the good thing for me about that matchup is he’s had a lot of concussions, he knows it. He had to pull himself out (of fights). I could just add to the list of concussions he’s had and it…

Garbrandt is a good boxer with power but he seems to be too linear in movement to hit cruz. I honestly don't know how you can beat cruz unless you're an extremely high level striker like thompson or aldo

but hell give cody the shot why not there's always the one punch chance

Grabant doesn't look smart enough to beat Dom...even if he had the skills, these guys at BW are not touching him - at 5' 8" he is a decent height for FW, hope to see him there soon

Dom VS Max would be one hell of a standup fight, Dom is impossibly polished but Max is quite a bit longer and damn unorthodox

Yes, not sure that was meant as a retort to what I said - I am saying Dom is tall enough to be a FW (again), but guys like Max, Aldo, etc have a few inches on him....

holloway and aldo only have a 2" reach advantage which is only 1" per fist also made less significant with dominick evasive style. I do agree that dom should be at featherweight.

Agreed but I also don't think he can be as evasive with a longer guy like Halloway kicking at him from outside his stick & move punching range

Cody Grabass will probably dislocate a shoulder winging bombs while only hitting air while Faber bounces up and down at cageside yelling and bruising his own sternum with his enormous butt-chin every time he open that of his .

Chad Mini-Mendes won't attend out of embarrassment for being a proven juice-head. He'll be taking out his frustration in his basement torture chamber dismembering some type of warm-blooded vertebrate as it hangs upside down.

However, Grabass should make more than enough money to get quality rehab after surgery, and he can get what remains of his bare skin inked up.
I can't wait for this fight!

I don't think Dominic has butt-chin, other than that.......maybe

I have always said that Dominic fights like a mouse in a snake's cage with no escape but to jump around.

I vividly remember one mouse I fed to my (now deceased) columbian boa and that thing was bouncing around like Dominic, however, much higher and deserved to get out of the closed cage. Unfortunately, I was dealing with a dilemma as when snakes go into eating mode, they are "in the zone"...........stay away

I like Cruz in that he's the guy I could most consistently listen to as a commentator and his knowledge and ability to communicate what he knows makes him the better coach. I think Cody can win IF he doesn't get predictable. Dominic is already at work though...I'm interested to see how it continues. If I had the skillset and talent to compete with Cruz, the last thing I'd do leading up to a fight is engage in any trashtalk, I'd keep it respectful, analytical and try to let him have the last word.

IMO If Cody starts to tag Cruz up I think he can TKO or KO him. Yes Cruzs movement is just on another level but Cody has very accurate striking and I feel like he will get to Dom. That gif of Dom slipping those punches is sick

aaaaand this is why I'm not Cody Garbrandt!
In retrospect we can analyse his willingness to chirp with Cruz as confidence in his ability to beat him at his own game.
Great news to wake up to and happy this guy shook up the division.
