Renzo Gracie wants to celebrate 50th birthday by 'beating someone up’ in the Octagon

Next year will mark a big milestone for Brazilian jiu-jitsu blackbelt Renzo Gracie as he reaches his 50th birthday on March 11. To celebrate the occasion, he would like to have one more UFC fight.

As Gracie told AG Fight, he still has a contract with the UFC, even though the last time he performed in the Octagon was in April 2010, at UFC 112. On that occasion, he was TKO'd by Matt Hughes.

"Actually, I'm not retired. I just lost 26 pounds and I have been training with these young kids so I feel like getting into a brawl again. I can't wait. I'm 49 and I still have my contract with the UFC. Masters division? What, I'm going to fight an old man who's my age? I want to fight by the end of this year…

I don't have the issue that others do with this. If he wants one more fight let him have it. The NY event is November in his backyard. Put him on the early prelims against another aged fighter. Guys like Renzo deserve to be able to go out how they want IMO .

I first met Renzo in 2011 and he was trying to get a fight then. It's kind of ridiculous that Dana just keeps telling "We'll talk later" in hopes he'll just go away. They could have given Renzo his send off fight when he was 45, which sounds a lot better than fighting at 50.

He won't be granted a release. At this point I'd be surprised if he hasn't already asked for it.

Yup, and they won't let him fight elsewhere. There are a lot of fight promoters that would let him fight at the drop of a hat.
