RIP Damien Riccio

Old school people like me will remember Riccio as the guy who challenged Robin Gracie in France and won. Apparently died of a heart attack.

Then people will also remember the ensuing Internet fiasco. The Gracie crew that flew to France to beat on Riccio cause you know, you're not allowed to beat the Gracie's and post a video.

Rip to a NHB/mma pioneer.

Then a Gracie crew (Royler Royce rodrigo robin and others) flew to France to seek him out and beat on him. Yep. Royce beat on Damien's little teenage brother Pepe in the family's restaurant. Robin got KO by Damien in the scuffle. Then the Gracie's got scared and flee when Damien took out his shotgun and fired a shot in the ceiling to let them show he wouldn't fuck around.

Not only do I remember it, I almost had a fight with both brothers over comments I made. We had a pretty heated argument, that resulted in childish romoshops being posted.

We put it behind us and were on good terms. I'm truly saddened by his passing

Robin had just done a 3 hr seminar (rolling with everyone) and Riccio shows up to challenge him. Robin said F it and accepted and got pummeled. Robin tried to do a formal rematch, but Riccio refused and started telling the world how he'd demolished a Gracie.

Royce and a few others fly out to Spain and search for Damien. They find him and demand an on the spot challenge. He refuses, they surround him, a melee breaks out and poor Pepe Riccio gets the worst of it as Damien fled. A friend of Riccio's on the scene fires a pistol in the air and everyone scatters. The Gracies were actually gloating about it. I remember Royce posting on the UG at the time until someone wisely told him he could face legal repercussions and he clammed up. The Riccios never accepted that rematch, but Damien actually was an okay fighter and probably would have won anyway since Robin walks around at 150 lbs. and Damien was closer to 200.

Yes, you're right. Was the original fight in Spain or France? I know Robin lived in Spain at the time.

Lol Robin didn't get KOed in the scuffle and it wasn't a shotgun or Damien who fired the shot.

Robin had just done a 3 hr seminar (rolling with everyone) and Riccio shows up to challenge him. Robin said F it and accepted and got pummeled. Robin tried to do a formal rematch, but Riccio refused and started telling the world how he'd demolished a Gracie.

Royce and a few others fly out to Spain and search for Damien. They find him and demand an on the spot challenge. He refuses, they surround him, a melee breaks out and poor Pepe Riccio gets the worst of it as Damien fled. A friend of Riccio's on the scene fires a pistol in the air and everyone scatters. The Gracies were actually gloating about it. I remember Royce posting on the UG at the time until someone wisely told him he could face legal repercussions and he clammed up. The Riccios never accepted that rematch, but Damien actually was an okay fighter and probably would have won anyway since Robin walks around at 150 lbs. and Damien was closer to 200.
