I can't say too much that I haven't said before. Media gets leaned on, co-opted into the scam. Fighters themselves are complaining here because they have hard numbers that they USED to get in sponsorship dollars that they can now compare to the new (raw) deal. PPV & other TV licenses are still unexplored goldmines that fighters are getting hosed on right, left and center. But they have no hard numbers and don't feel entitled to any TV/PPV money.
Major stars are given better deals to keep them from becoming dissatisfied. It's been a careful game of slowly taking as much as possible while appearing to give something back. Truth is, this has always been a toxic sport and anyone with self-respect would demand better or walk away like Tim Kennedy is doing.

Do you or anyone else really believe what DW says? He's a lemon lot salesman at this point.
The UFC makes more money shaking down sponsors for the right to be seen in the octagon than this deal pays out. I have a feeling Zuffa is no happier with these numbers than the fighters, but they should have thought of that before they made the deal exclusive.

Josh Gross mentioned on his recent podcast that the UFC introduced the sponsor tax because of Tap Out. They had some sort of exclusive sponsorship deal, where they were paying the UFC $1.5mil, but were unhappy about the competition they were getting from people who didn't have to pay anything. The UFC's response was to introduce the tax, and all that has come about because of that were unforeseen consequences. So the introduction of the tax, wasn't a money grab per se, but was from outside pressure. However, it seems like most things they failed to account for the consequences. The fighters really need a Union to look out for their interests, or the UFC will continue to look out for theirs, as business' should do, and the fighters will continue to fall by the wayside.
