I think the biggest part in this really is that these figures mean nothing to me as opposed to you guys who grew up with em. Sure, they made origin stories, but its not the same as a literal childhood hero or at least an established universe to connect it to. So I think its very normal I have a very different point of approach.

Also I did say they make good quality movies, I'm not saying everything sucks at all. But lets be honest here, the title, Civil War, is a bad fit for the movie. I came into the movie expecting shit to go down, but it did not. Dark(er) tone and grim faces do not make a war. Well, a cold war perhaps. :D
So yeah, that was disappointing.
If people shit on BvS (deservedly so), for the actual fight being unimportant, build up strangely, and really weirdly concluded, and the main point of it being that its dark and gritty, then this Civil War should get a similar treatment. Of course that movie had a whole bunch of other problems that made it inferior to CW.
The title is more to reference to source material than to be taken literally.

If you only knew why it wasn't a bad fit for a title.

Two guesses. Either actually important people die in that one, or its more of a childrens-story.
What do you say?

Also the comics are a base they can take from, but surely go beyond that or away from it a lot. Doesn't really change anything to my assessment.

I'll give you a hint. It's not a children's story.

They didn't have the balls then to go Game of Thrones in the cinematic universe.
Big money hinders creativity.

So the next one is called Infinity Wars, right? Hue Hue Hue. Maybe they'll hire some red shirts to bite the dust. :D

Not a children's story. They deal with some pretty heavy handed politics, and ethics. Bill Foster, aka Goliath dies. No diss to goliath fans but he's pretty minor as far as Marvel characters go.

It absoulutely does if you're formulating an opinion on a portion of info.

In case everyone hasn't checked, CW is on Netflix right now.
I've watched it several times.
Not my favorite, but I like all superhero movies on principal, and because. And it's a storyline.
Iron Man was my favorite growing up, and I proved it by drinking constantly. But not my favorite movies.
My favorite of all of them was Winter Soldier, because it was more serious, which happens to be what I wish the Infinity Gauntlet story would be but doesn't sell and won't be. All the Marvel movies, save Captain America, and Thor, have an over-abundance of campy dialogue.
I can't wait for Ragnarok.
I can't get enough Marvel overall, unless it's a cheesy tv show.

I like both for different reasons.

I liked that the villain in civil war was not your run of the mill super baddie, and they took a much more human turn with him.
I didn't mind that route but disliked that they used the name of a wacko super villian for the guy which made zero sense except to pack in existing marvel character names.

Probably a legal thing. Movie rights law is weird af.

I LOVED that they threw in Baron Von Zemo, AKA Helmet Zemo.
I had his action figure as a kid.

What I also dig is that they didn't kill him, or Batroc(GSP) in Winter Soldier, so both could technically come back, and at least one surely will. I also like that actor.

Baron von Zemo...

Its the same for me, I watched most of the Marvel movies, but remember little about most of em.

On another note, the Netflix shows did a lot of good shit, and the DC-movies and shows are atrocious for the most part. :D
The reason they aren't that memorable is because they don't have a lot of substance. They're meticulously plotted and generally have good dialogue and decent acting. Of course great special effects. But the themes are pretty shallow and most actual character development takes place too quickly to feel like you traveled somewhere. They're very good movies on their own, but have much more to say as a whole interconnected universe.

Cap 1 is actually my favorite because I think it's contrary to this trend. It really captures the essence of the Cap Jack Kirby and Joe Simon created and his journey from good hearted everyman to propaganda piece to soldier and then hero. The sequels are very fun, but use him more as a prop than a character.

The TV shows have managed to do much more. Daredevil alone is brilliant stuff. Jessica Jones was also very good in terms of themes and character if a little less well executed in craft. Luke Cage has been a bust for me when I've tried watching so far, but I'll give it another go.

DC shows and films suck unless they're animated (except Dark Knight trilogy).

I had that action figure too. From the Secret Wars series?

Have you read Thunderbolts? It's an excellent arc for old Helmut.

Yeah!

Also had Iron Man, Spider Man (Black & regular) Kang the Conqueror, and Dr. Doom.
Oh to be a kid again...

Yes, those figures were my gateway to comics in a way. I had Kang, Daredevil, Zemo, Doom and, after a thorough hunt, black Spidey. What was weird is I didn't know who Zemo was for years afterward until I saw him again when the Masters of Evil took over Avengers Mansion. I think I bought that comic solely to figure out who Zemo was.

I always liked Zemo and I like the actor (first saw him in Inglorious Basterds) but didn't like Zemo being a relatively righteous figure in the movie. It's a little nuts and wrong to do what he did but it's pretty understandable. The version of Batroc they did with GSP was fantastic.
