General Hot stone steak at restaurants, awesome or rip off?

Ever been to one of those places where they heat up a stone and bring it to you with the raw steak and you cook it right at your table?

For myself I love it, I cut strips off the steak and cook it to perfection, but I have some friends that say its a rip off. They say if they wanted to cook their own steak they would just stay home.

What say you TMMAC?

It's pretty cool. Typically overpriced for the amount of food you get but it's a nice novelty factor.

So I feel that it's a pretty awesome rip-off.

The two times I've had it like this it was more of an appetizer so not all was lost. Once it was with thin slices of Kobe so you literally just put the slice on the stone briefly to warm the fat through. That was awesome.

Its really good. We ended up going someplace else because of how crowded the place we normally go was but here is a picture from a while back (dont mind how skinny I look there, I was in heavy cardio mode at the time and got skinnier than I should have)

Not sure if there are any chains that do it but several places around me do it.

It's Ishiyaki. I think it's more theatrics than anything else and relieves the restaurant of liability if you turn your steak into shoe leather.

Went to a Korean place that did this. Had a little metal grill on the table. I had no idea and it fucked me off a little bit. The ex was great at cooking tho so she took care of it. I oft eat alone tho because I like it but not sure I'd go to one of them places on my own. And I nearly always roll solo

One of the places here have propane grills built into the middle of the tables. My son loves cooking the stuff but we don't go there often since it's $100 or more for the 3 of us to go.

The other places are small mom and pop joints and bring the grill to the table. I have a buddy who was stationed in Korea and another Korean friend who I've gone to them with and have brought my wife and son there after. I don't think I'd go to any of them by myself since it's more of a social thing. If I'm going to cook on a grill in front of me it may as well be at home.

I don't typically order steak at restaurants. More often than not, ok actually its almost every damn time I'm disappointed and feel like i could do better myself.

There is 1 place in Turlock called Table 26. I had an amazing steak there a few weeks ago. The meal was amazing. The potatoes tore me up though, fucking duck butter. It was a $40 plate so we dont go there often. It was for Valentines day.

I went to a Korean barbecue in South Korea that spoke no English we had no idea what we were doing.
We pointed at some different items and they bring out all these side salts and sauces and whatnot. Then they start the barbecue and give us all the raw meat we have no idea what we're doing. We're fucking this meat all up. We don't know what to dip in what or how to eat anything.

The old Korean Grandma comes over and tries to teach us and when we do it wrong she slaps our hands.

My wife is mortified because the Korean lady really seems to have it out for her, just slapping her hands over and over and over while we laugh our was off.

I have yet to learn to eat Korean barbecue properly.

They've been doing this in my motherland, Portugal, since the dawn of time. They call it the 'Bife a Pedra' - Steak a la Stone. I remember going there in the 90s when I was a kid and eating it at restaurants and shit. I like it.
