Seven months removed from his last fight with the UFC, welterweight contender Lorenz Larkin is now part of the Bellator MMA family. Larkin became a free agent following his TKO win over Neil Magny at UFC 202, having turned down a “lowball” offer from the UFC prior to the fight. It should be noted, of course, that Larkin vs. Magny was the “feature Fight Pass prelim,” so a battle between two top-10 fighters was essentially fought in a mostly empty T-Mobile Arena.

While the process and final decision took longer than expected, the Riverside-native told The Press Enterprise why Bellator MMA was the right fit for him.

“It’s been a long process, I didn’t…

Bellator MMA signs former UFC welterweight Lorenz Larkin

Great signing for Bellator and loss for the UFC. Some fun match ups for him at 170.

Knew it. He was simply worth more to bellator than to the UFC.

Coker needs Cali names for his Cali events. Larkin is a solid solid get.

Tons of fun fights for him in Bellator.

Picking thatch up won't be bad either

In talking to some Bellator people at the last event. I was curious why they hadn't returned to the Pechanga reservation for events. Apparently they are building a new event center and Bellator will be returning soon. Not only is it 5 minutes from me but also basically in Lorenz's backyard. He could easily main event any smaller bellator show there as well as fill a spot on any of the big Cali shows as you said.

Any idea how big the new center is going be? I always wondered if Bellator or the UFC would ever go to citizens business bank arena in Ontario. Then I started thinking and realized: why would they go to an arena with 11k capacity when Honda, staples, and the forum are all about 1 hour away and are much more desirable and bigger.

Do u know for certain that Bellator will return to Temecula(I think that's where Pachanga is iirc). I always assumed that they'd go to the three I posted above.

I was told by 2 people they would definitely be returning.yes pechanga is in Temecula. No idea on the size. Previous events were held in a ballroom. I went to Bellator 10 and I believe that was at citizens Bank but they never returned. Also been to Bellator at the bren center in Irvine before also.

Interdasting.

Guess we'll have to wait and see. I'd be more than up for a trip to pachanga if it's a decent card. The new center would have to hold a fair amount of people tho. 10k or so.

Any idea when it should be completed? I could see Larkin facing off against Gonzalez in he debut. that fight would make sense seeing how Gonzalez is from menefee and trains out of Temecula himself no? Card would probably also have award and georgi seeing how they also train out of mallenia.

Not sure about opening I'll see if I can track down some info. 10k would be huge. I'd expect more of a 5-7k seat. The old venue held Bellator and lion fight atleast 10 times. They seemed to sell out no problem with a crowd of I'd guess around 2,500. I think it would be used to replace some of the Oklahoma and other res shows that seem to lack crowds.

Ok according to their website it's a 70,000 square foot addition to the ballrooms. It was also supposed to be done at the end of last year. Definitely curious to see what they've done.

Hopefully he goes on a tear, fights out his contract, and comes back to the UFC. It's not that I wish Bellator ill will or anything like that, I just think that the UFC will continue to be the top proving ground in MMA.

If he gets really popular, though, I doubt Bellator will let him go (and the next time his contract ends it will be Bellator with initial matching rights).

Regardless, he seems like a really cool dude, so I'm happy for him that he got the best deal possible.
