ONE Championship is switching things up.

The promotion announced Tuesday that former ONE lightweight titleholder Shinya Aoki is slated to meet decorated jiu-jitsu ace Garry Tonon in a grappling-only match as part of its ONE: Dynasty of Heroes event on May 26 in Singapore, which is headlined by Angela Lee’s next defense of her ONE atomweight title.

Late last year, prior to losing his ONE lightweight title in an upset against EduardFolayang, Aoki actually called for a grappling-only contest against Tonon during an interview with jiu-jitsu website BJJEE.com. Now, it appears, he’ll get his wish.

@Rhino let's hear a breakdown for this one.
Absolutely.... Shinya is phenomenal at his rubber guard, very crafty at controlling people and setting up his attacks, he's got a flexibility based game that I am jealous of....... That said, Garry is a BEAST!!! He's got great everything, and trains with killers at DDS, and is active in grappling..... I say Garry by sub in a fun match

I say that because Kron looked to be at the same level when he subbed them both.

But Garry and Kron are both much better now, and I think time has been catching up with Aoki.

Garry takes this pretty easily. Aoki is a good MMA grappler, but won't be able to hang with Tonon.

I love the fact that Tonon will grapple anyone without worrying about losing. As someone that follows grappling on the surface, it seems like he's one of the few that just wants to compete against anyone and everyone which is so unlike a majority of guys.

I would have liked to see Aoki vs Cummings..... That would have been awesome too
