Fuck em. They are nothing more than watered down horse shit. If you want to make a child friendly cartoon, do it. If you want to make a movie about war, then go balls deep. There was only one pg13 movie in history that didn't suck and it was Red Dawn.

Even if it didn't have prime Lea Thompson, Red Dawn - the only one that matters - it still would be awesome.

WOLVERINES!

The thing is, as you mentioned, movies are now designed around the PG-13 rating, while it was intended to be a restriction, so as a parent you could watch a movie without the worry of exposing your child to indecent materials. It is all about having a wider movie going audience, thus more revenue coming in. And films have suffered creatively because of that.

That said, I do believe ratings are needed. But to make a horror movie in PG-13? I think that is a watered-down product in the end. Stick with the Power Rangers...

Ferris Bueller's Day Off was PG 13.

So was Tremors - one of the most underrated movies of all time.

During the early 1980s, a number of PG-rated movies containing surprisingly violent content sparked off an overview of the ratings system. Two violent PG-rated movies affiliated with Steven Spielberg - 'Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom' and 'Gremlins' - were the catalyst for the MPAA to modify the ratings system and introduce the PG-13 rating in 1984 (July 1). This rating still allows children under 17 to be admitted without a parent or guardian, but the rating does note that parents are "strongly cautioned" to be aware of potentially shocking violence or sexual content. The first movie to officially be released with a PG-13 rating was 1984's 'Red Dawn.'

Who thinks that movie is anything but amazing?!?
I don't know. But they are idiots.
It's never mentioned with the greats, but when I stumble on it it's guaranteed I'll be watching it the entire way through.

Tremors is a legit good movie.

But there needs to be a category of movies that aren't "artistic greats" but you can't turn away from every time they are on.

The Rock? Shit...there goes my Sunday afternoon.

Goonies
Stand By Me
Bull Durham
Office Space
Iron Eagle
First Blood
Fletch
Beverly Hills Cop

Luckily they are older and rarely on. But if I click on it - plans are changed.

Saw both of those at the theater with my sister and no parents when I was WAY under 13. Under 10, actually, which would mean that she was around 12 or 13. I was surprised that they let us in.
Stand By Me
Saw this at the same theater at age 12 with my 6th grade friends, purely on accident. It was the only movie showing when we arrived, having just walked 7 miles from school. No parents or older siblings.

I never had any friends later on like the ones I had when I was 12. Jesus, does anyone?
