And in that situation it is on them as a consumer.I don't think it's fair to say that the average person understands the extent to which Google data mines. Kind of like how when people buy a fitbit they don't realize that the info it gathers is sold off. Fitbits are actually really, really messed up. That's another thread though.
Oh yeah.let me get this straight-- big brother is real?
For all ISP's to be doing this does not provide the consumer with an option to opt out is bullshit.
I really don't understand how you reconcile the idea that it's okay for Amazon or Google to do it, but not okay for someone else. If on Google or Amazon's front page told you "By using this site we're going to track you everywhere you go and then sell all your info" people would think twice. In some cases you only have another option by the strictest definition. Have you ever used Bing? Bing couldn't find a fuck in a whore house. Even then I'm not really sure I'd believe there are any search engines that don't data mine their users. And in that situation it is on them as a consumer.

If you dont want Google selling your personal data then switch to duckduckgo. If you dont want your ISP provider to sell your personal data and information? Too fucking bad, soon your only option is to not use the internet.

Google charges websites to be on Google.Do you think Google provides a service out of the good of its heart?
And how does that cost the average Google user anything?Google charges websites to be on Google.
It doesn't. I also don't pay anything to go into a brick and mortar store. And how does that cost the average Google user anything?
Computers come setup with Google as their default search engine, so even that's somewhat debatable. Having said that, I have less choice when it comes to search engines than I do ISP providers. If you dont like Google collecting your data, you have a choice to to use their service. You do not have the same choice when it comes to ISP providers.
You beat google using a piece of software with do not track enabled.Computers come setup with Google as their default search engine, so even that's somewhat debatable. Having said that, I have less choice when it comes to search engines than I do ISP providers.
I'd say yes, but it would be tough. I quite literally have Facebook just to follow businesses as they tend to update on Facebook before they do anywhere else. Can a business succeed in the current climate without facebook?
That almost goes without saying.Does facebook have a social media monopoly on business pages?
That almost goes without saying.
Thats bullshit.Computers come setup with Google as their default search engine, so even that's somewhat debatable. Having said that, I have less choice when it comes to search engines than I do ISP providers.
I have 5 well advertised ISP's, 8 I can think of off the top of my head.Thats bullshit.
You have access to dozens of search engines.
I would be surprised if you has access to a dozen ISP providers.
I have 5 well advertised ISP's, 8 I can think of off the top of my head.
For search engines I can think of Google, Bing, Yahoo, Ask Geeves, Lycos, and Alta Vista? Are they still around? I don't doubt there are more but I'd have to Google them.
Unless something's changed I'm pretty sure only have 2 have infrastructure, but an ISP using their infrastructure still offers different contracts. You really have access to 8 service providers? In Canada? We only have 3 big companies, I the others your mention piggy back off one of the big 3 ISP providers.
This is the equivalent of fatty's who blame fast food joints for making them fat. That being said when my 60 year old parents buy a new computer and Google is the default search engine as far as they're aware, it's all that exists.
Until McDonald's starts serving their food to people in their own kitchens, that's a horrible analogy. This is the equivalent of fatty's who blame fast food joints for making them fat.
The analogy has to do with the "helpless" consumer who just doesn't know any better. Sorry but ignorance just doesn't float.Until McDonald's starts serving their food to people in their own kitchens, that's a horrible analogy.
Its not a hidden secret. I am not so sure why you think people dont know about this.At no point do they tell their users that they're whoring them out.
Go buy a new computer. Turn it on, open the web browser and tell me what pops up. There'll be a search engine, but no info about that search engines ulterior motives. I honestly don't understand how you say "buyer beware" as applies to search engines, but think it's unfair for ISP's to put things in contracts that need to be agreed upon by the same consumers. Its not a hidden secret.
