Bellator officials today announced a partnership with Monster Energy and NASCAR “to showcase a series of fights to take place at select races during the 2017 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series season.”

The fights will serve as a pre-race activity for fans in attendance. The promotion previously took part in a similar set up ahead of Monster Energy Cup Motocross events.

“I’m excited to announce Bellator’s partnership with the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series,” Bellator President Scott Coker stated. “Bellator and NASCAR fans are some of the most passionate in sports, and we couldn’t be happier to bring MMA and motorsports together.

“Monster Energy has been a great partner of ours over the years, and we’re excited about the opportunity to integrate our brand into another great sports property within the Monster Energy family. I want to thank Cody Dresser and Hans Molenkamp from Monster Energy for helping put this great partnership together, and I’m looking forward to introducing Bellator to a whole new fanbase.”

Much like the fights Bellator previously promoted at motocross events, the cards are likely to consist of three or four fights, which aren’t presented as part of televised coverage.

Initial stops are schedule for North Carolina, Tennessee and Florida.

Bellator MMA will be featured at the following 2017 NASCAR races:
  • Monster Energy All-Star Race at Charlotte Motor Speedway – Saturday, May 20
  • Bass Pro Shops NRA Night Race at Bristol Motor Speedway – Saturday, Aug. 19
  • Alabama 500 at Talladega Superspeedway – Sunday, Oct. 15
  • Ford EcoBoost 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway – Sunday, November 19

Well that sucks.

Youre officially bush league and your credability is shot when you partner up with Nascar.

As someone that once worked on the NASCAR circuit and comes from a small town that hosts NASCAR events (this past weekend actually)... I sure as hell hope that there is no grappling in the fights. It will not go over well with an abundance of fans that are there to see left turns.

Yeah, they'd be smart to book nothing but strikers for these. Still- pretty smart way to branch out and make new fans.

This all probably came about afyer they hired Ryan Grab, who previously worked for Phoenix International Raceway.

"We are pleased to welcome Ryan to our staff," said Coker. "His years of experience in the MMA industry will have an immediate impact on our team at Bellator and we look forward to him assisting with the overall growth of the organization."

Prior to his time with Phoenix International Raceway, Grab spent over five years with Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) in Las Vegas. In addition to PR, Grab also held a role within the organization's Athlete Development department where he was responsible for organizing and programming educational summits for active athletes, as well as promoting health and wellness initiatives within the sport.

I think it's weird. From a business standpoint I get it, but nascar denying the partnership makes it weird. Also, I could be wrong, but I think a lot of nascar fans are kids. They're trying to bring in more fans with disposable income I guess, no matter who they push out.

They should throw in a couple of pro-wrestling fights, maybe some mud wrasslin also. That will get some more fans.
