I am positively astounded how most people here are so high on the Kurds as if they are a shining beacon of whatever against the evil of the middle East. They are just currently against what you don't like. Or basically you see them and the others as what the media wants you too.
The kurds aren't one monolithic group. The ones fighting ISIS in Syria are libertarian socialists, which do promote social equality and other progressive values. They would be considered extremely left wing in the West, which makes the worship ironic. I'm very sure that especially in terms of honor-killings, the Kurds are the cream the crop. That should give an inclination of how progressive they are as a group in treating women.
