I do think the evidence points to both (sadist, and lack of empathy connected to a definable personality disorder).
That applies to anyone who chooses to assault other people for a living. Similarly it applies to those of us who watch it. It's hilarious that people watch a sport like MMA and then get offended by it.

I love when people shit on Millennials. I blame the generation who created and parented the millennials. Thats what you get for telling your child they are special and can do anything they want in life.
It's not about millennials. It's about social media and technology and the limits and weaknesses inherent in humans. Old people are just as harmed by it all as anybody else.

You can turn an old person who has always believed they were dumb their whole life long -- and who respected people smarter than they are -- into a narcissistic idiot in a very short period of time if you just have enough stupid people to tell them their whole life before was a lie, and really it was the smart people who were stupid all along.

I bet you can think of old people in your own life, very quickly, who you think are stupid as fuck yet are convinced that they're smart, because a lot of other stupid people who are stupid in the same way have constructed a mutual reassurance society with each other over the past 10 years. They probably grew up knowing they were not especially bright, and developing strength in their humility, and all that is ruined now thanks to a few years of echo chambering on the facebook amongst other similarly dumb dumbs.

Human lizard brain weakness is universal. So you can feel better about that.

No man, it doesn't.

And if you think that fans and practitioners belong in the same class, that's a head scratcher.

What non-practitioners & practitioners get out of watching fights is not at all generally equivalent.

Until the recent era, where more douchebags stick around longer because of the visibility of the sport, most of the top fighters couldn't stand the audiences because they are so consistently full of stupid, unbenevolent idiots (or people who might be able to behave better under other circumstances, displaying themselves at their worst).
