So one of the first things I saw this morning was this tweet by Cyborg.

View: https://twitter.com/criscyborg/status/856547991267692544

She seems to be happy and getting ready for the fight she's been waiting her whole career for. Only to get this response from the verified UFC Espanol Twitter account.

Whether you are a fan of her or not. It is ridiculous that her employer/promoter seems to be on a mission to completely discredit her. Wonder if when Bisping announces the GSP fight if the UFC will remind the fans of the 1/2 dozen fights he turned down to make it.

This is exactly what the UFC would have attempted to do to Fedor and why I couldn't be happier he signed with Bellator.

It looks like Cyborg is the one discrediting herself by announcing things she's not supposed to. Agree they could have been nicer about the correction though. It seems like the lack of professionalism goes both ways.

Yeah I understand why people are not fans of her. But she is the only legit 145er in the UFC's joke of a division. Seems counterproductive to slam the eventual face of their division. Amazing that the UFC is gonna manage 2 championship fights at 145 and it hasn't even had a non title fight or even anyone signed to the division.

I wonder who runs that account and whether they got bitched at or given a high five or whether they were bitched at by their direct boss and Dana called them and gave'em a pep talk?

I still like seeing her fight, and still believe she's the best womens FW on the planet. But I stopped feeling bad for her. It's like watching a woman go back to a guy that's beats her because he said he was sorry and that it wouldn't happen again. You know damn well it will, but she keeps going back for more.

I totally understand why the UFC PR machine postures itself against its fighters' claims sometimes, but even in the most subtle situations it makes me uncomfortable.

This is 100% bullshit. They could have done it a different way.

Side note- I don't think I'm in the minority here when I say that either Cris needs to handle her own Twitter account, or she needs to get someone to do it other than whoever is doing it now. It makes her look bad in my opinion. I don't know if there's a single manager-run MMA twitter account that does a lot of good for their fighter in general. It's kind of bizarre because managers are supposed to understand these things.

Her contract's up in October, even if she gets no more fights. She can't do much about her contract status til then, but she can ride things out and try and get one more fight.

If she leaves the UFC, Bellator will make her a very nice offer, more than the $50k + $50k she's making now or whatever.

She should just ride the contract out. When she gets the belt the UFC will probably shelf her or have her fight Anderson then scrap the division.
Also believe she was making a flat 100k for her ZUFFA paid invicta fights.

If she wins the belt and he UFC then scraps the division, she'll be worth even more EDIT: still be worth a lot to Bellator. Even if the UFC doesn't throw their hat in the ring on that, Rizin will.

This could be a situation similar to Connor announcing that he was back On a card to try to build fan support when he damn well knew he wasn't.

I like watching Cyborg but her constant excuses, bitching, failing tests and blaming it on the doctor has soured my opinion of her. This may not be fair since her PR team seems to be run by idiots but ultimately she is at fault for all the hate she gets.

Too many things happen to her all the time to NOT have blame in it herself in some sort of way. Then she can't lose weight, then she fights in that weightclass, then she needs 9 weeks, then she needs 3 months, then she almost died, then she had tainted supplements, then she needed the meds, then the doc forgot to mention stuff.

Get you shit together, then I'll care to look into what the UFC has anything to do with this. Terrible PR, so much potential wasted. Not investing in it anymore.

Good call. Top Men definitely run the UFC Espanol twitter account and not some fucking intern that's about to get canned.

She's in a tough spot in that respect. I don't like how her team has decided to market her, but from people I know who know her she's actually a very funny, sweet girl. The UFC is the only place where female fighters get any real type of publicity, and Cyborg is at the point in her career where her skills can make her a ton of money if she plays her cards right (whether or not she has done that is certainly up for debate). Invicta does good things for female fighters, but Cyborg's skills have out-grown the promotion. Bellator hasn't built much for women's divisions at all, either. The UFC is the only logical place where she can be compensated for her skillset. She isn't PVZ who can say "screw this" and make money off of her image and aesthetic likeability. She's a fighter, and one who deserves to fight in the best organization on the planet.

Perhaps she COULD go to Rizin, but they don't have many events per year and they still haven't built up a huge following. I'd like to see it personally, but I don't think it makes business sense for Cris.

Cliffs? Link doesn't work.
Interesting. They took the tweet down. Let me do some digging.

He talked about his personal experience in dealing with her and her management and how they pretty much sucked to do business with. He's a big fan and wished the UFC would push her more because he thinks that she really could be a star but she isn't making it easy for anyone.
