Top Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) middleweight Chris Weidman suffered his third straight defeat at UFC 210 a few weeks ago, losing to Gegard Mousasi via technical knockout (TKO) in Buffalo, New York.

The final result, however, was clouded in controversy due to the referee in charge changing his original call of illegal knees delivered by Gegard to legal, giving Mousasi the victory after Chris was deemed unfit to continue.

All with the aid of legal instant replay, according to New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC).

See it again here.

Damn, concussions a bitch.

Gegard was lighting Chris up right before the shenanigans started. Chris had started to look sloppy due to fatigue, had it continued knee or no knee Chris was probably going to lose that fight by TKO regardless

Good on Chris for confirming the validity of the doctor's stoppage by displaying signs of permanent brain damage.

Mousasi would be an idiot to rematch him. Wideman is on a 3-fight skid now. Moose should be looking at Whitaker or Romero, and if they are fighting each other, Rockhold. Any other fight is a backwards step.

Mousasi fought like shit, and was still about to kill Weidman.

If you read the article, it sounds like Weidman's management is doing this as a formality, not like CW is being delusional.

According to Chris "..at the end of the day, I can’t control any of it and it’s over. I’ll just look to the future. Whether they make it a no contest or not, I’m not focused on it. I’ll let my management team deal with that and hopefully the right thing happens. I am not putting much time and effort into thinking about that."

The other quote from him is a little more out there, but I think that's just the mindset of a true competitor. He always believes he's in the fight.

That legal knee at the end did a lot of damage. I don't see how Chris can still say he dominated.

Mousasi was well on his way to the first sub-40 score in a 5 round fight in UFC history before he threw those Hail Mary illegal knees.

If the appeal fails, Weidman and WME-IMG should consider criminal prosecution.

(shooting for a 2/10 here)

thankfully there is video replay & the fight was awarded to the real winner. Chris is a marketable fighter, but if he keeps the losing streak going, do they let him go?

When Weidman's manager came on later in the the podcast and repeated everything verbatim, I realised that Chris had been coached prior to his appearance on the MMA Hour. It's not that big a deal, but less genuine. Also, if the ref hadn't stepped in when he did, Chris was going night-night, regardless of whether he won the first round.

I see Chris as painfully unmarketable but a good fighter in a division where the top 5 are better. He's in a shitty spot.

I think I agree here, but I don't see the UFC letting him go because he is still seen as elite by the fans. He was once the undefeated champ who beat Silva twice (though both times under shaky circumstances). I think the general public's perception of Chris will buy him some time. They'd rather keep Weidman on a 3 or even 4 fight skid than let him go to Bellator and add more legitimacy to that growing 185 division. I've guessed wrong with Bellator before though (Rory) so we will see.

I agree, and while we know anything is possible, I can't see them releasing Chris due to Serra's relationship with Dana.... I mean for fucks sake, they kept Ronda's "Horsewomen", Conor's lap dog, and Chuck Liddell around when the loses were mounting (well not so much the Horsewomen).

I think even the UFC couldn't justify keeping the Horsewomen.

Weidman clearly won the first round and Mousasi was clearly winning the second round.

Would Weidman have recovered from those knees if the fight hadn't been stopped? I have no idea, but I sure would have liked to see it.

Then he should'nt have played the game. He wanted out, and pussied out. He wanted his 5 minutes rest.

I'm not defending his actions. But according to the rules, it shouldn't have been stopped.

Miragliotta fucked up more than anyone else. If he had let the fight go (as he should have), nobody would care if Weidman had tried to cry about illegal knees.

It would be a bad result for the division. An indecisive Weidman win wouldn't do a whole lot for him and it would just kill Moose's momentum.

It's much smarter to just give Weidman a bum to get a badly needed W and have Moose fight someone in a better spot.

Or just release him so he can fulfill his life long dream of being a garbage man on the Jersey shore, which is full of garbage.
