Any of you guys have Fightpass?

Watching UFC 4 right now. They cut all the attempted ball knockerz from Hackney out. The whole drama with Hackney trying to move the cup to find the nutz for crushing is gone. Vanished. Woosh. WTF?

You'd think, with Joe Son's history, this would be something they'd leave in.

Revisionist history.

So fuked up.

Re UFC4, Jennum is greatly underappreciated. If Severn was his size, Jennum vs Severn would've been a great match-up.

UFC 45 with Tank vs Cabbage on FP doesn't show the shenanigans in the cage after tbe fights stopped. These are important moments in MMA and they have cut them out.

It's pretty awful the stuff they take out.

I also don't like how they blur out old sponsors, it looks cheezy and "Dude Wipes" was part of the history and charm of the time.

The thing that REALLY bugs me is the removal of music. Some walkout songs were fucking iconic and memorable and it ruins the moment when they take them out. I recently pulled up Aisling Daly's Dublin fight to relive that amazing moment when she walked out to Cranberrie's "Zombie" and the crowd was on their feet. Absolutely hair-raisingly great moment.

The song was totally gone. The roaring crowd sounds were toned down to nothing. They absolutely ruined it.

Anyway, here it is, the song and the crowd singing starts 53 seconds in:

that was the most horse shit win ever, everybody had already fought 2 times and he comes in there fresh like he just ran into the ring in the wwe from backstage.
after that "victory", they made the alternates fight matches every event from then on.

Wow I had no idea this was happening. Makes me glad I held onto those old vhs tapes.

I remember during the US broadcast of Best of Pancrase back in the 90s they were using it as a vehicle to push the Shamrocks and so when Ken taps to Suzuki in the King of Pancrase match they cut to this weird alternate angle focused on Suzuki's face. In the Japanese telecast you clearly see Ken screaming as he taps like someone was killing him.

But really now if you watch that match it's obvious that it was a work either way so basically it was a lie within a lie within a secret.

I completely agree with this. It makes everybody seem like they came out to early 2000's douche rock. Takes a lot out of the entrances.

I gave up FP months ago. I'm going to rewatch some of these moments listed on my teenage viewing device and see what's up.

Yep it is 100% Bullshit...Intros were part of a fighters persona and style

Did the edit up the Pride Videos?

I have all the original Japanese versions...Hilarious behind the scenes stuff.

Not much value right now but the little things in those videos are priceless...Bas and Quads were great together

I'm not sure how much the Pride videos were edited. I didn't watch a lot of Pride when it was live so all I see is what's on Fight Pass but it still has its weird charm and some behind the scenes stuff.

I'm sure the songs are due to copyrights (obviously) but I want to know how much they actually saved by changing to the shitty music instead of the original intros. Some of the newer fights and the full events have the original music.

I may watch a few pride events on fight pass before my subscription runs out( I buy for a month for fight pass only cards sometimes)

I will get back to this thread with results.

Pride had extravagant intros...probably deleted...UFC had a great feel also but it felt cheaper in many ways...But the MMA money was flowing like yakuza wine in Japan at the time so it makes sense

A lot of the intros are still in there, if you are talking about the beginning of the card where they would introduce each fighter with all of the spotlights and smoke. That's one of my favorite aspects.

actually i'm thinking of ufc 3 that jennum won as an alternate, sorry
Hear ya, & that is valid, but Jennum was kind of the 1st MMA fighter, and watching his 2 fights in 3 & 4 really showed it. Bowen was also a much better boxer, not yet over the hill at that time, than ones whose UFC appearances have been much more remembered re "boxing vs mma" match-ups, and Jennum took him out in very classic form with basic wrestling & intermediate JJ way back then (when both were fresh in UFC 4).

His JJ was probably only blue belt (if that, but probably that) by today's standards, and his striking was intermediate level by modern standards, but his bouts showed how emerging combinations of skills could & did do against someone like Bowen who was an excellent athlete. Bowen was a journeyman boxer, but he was for real, and he came to fight that night. His skill set just wasn't what the occasion needed.

Such a cool match-up for that period, when people's perspective on how that type of match-up would likely play out wasn't quite known like today. So much more uncertainty for the fighters, for that reason, and so much pressure.

It's really too bad Jennum was an alternate in 3, because he probably would have been Royce's toughest match-up, there. It would have been black belt vs blue belt, but Jennum was much more sophisticated as a striker and might have had the intelligence to disengage on the ground, having at least some familiarity with what he would have felt, being on the ground with Royce.

Beautiful.

That was probably a major highlight of A. Daly's life, that anybody who's ever been part of a fight team can appreciate.
