Nothing signed yet, but doing these signings was how Wanderlei, Fedor, Royce, etc all began their relationships with Bellator....

I think he will get the itch to fight again. Bellator is bringing in the guys who built he sport for the hardcore fans then build up the little known guys to have a great promotion

Could see it happening. How many more fights did he have on his contract? I'm sure we will get the answer to this question, if the UFC comes in and tries to shit on this party

The Lombard fight was the last on his contract and then the Bisping fight happened so who knows what they signed him for considering he supposedly was not going to fight again no matter what.

The problem is that the legends they bring in have still not had a single good fight in the promotion yet. We will see with Fedor, who is just about the only one I think has a chance to look decent. Hendo would likely be a different story if its done quickly, but the guy is 46 and can barely move his head.

Royce Gracie looked fantastic @ 50.
Unfortunately, Ken did not look so great.

The legends they have brought in are-

Ken Shamrock, Royce Gracie, Tito Ortiz, Chael Sonnen, Wanderlei Silva, Fedor. (Kimbo was a legend in his own right, but more for his life and rise to fame than anything he did in MMA). Stephan Bonnar is a member of the UFC Hall of Fame, but to call him a legend would be an insult to actual legends.

Of all of those, I count 2 I would call bad (Ortiz vs Bonnar and Shamrock vs Gracie).

But all that is subjective. As dacofty @dacofty said, all that matters is that you watch. And every time they do a fight like this it draws big numbers. So no bitching when they drag Matt Hughes off the couch to submit Royce Gracie.

You wouldn't call Sonnen vs Tito bad? Ken vs Kimbo? You also have to include Kimbo vs Dada. I am not saying Kimbo is an MMA legend, but that was based solely on notoriety and it might have been the worst ever.
Have you seen the recent videos of Wand sparring?

Also, you are mentioning every Ken fight, every Royce fight, one of Tito's (also remember that Tito got a title shot after the Bonnar fight, which should say something), missed a bad Sonnen fight though I guess that's debatable, and neither Fedor or Wand have fought. There's not a whole lot of room for positives there.

I agree that it is just for eyes, but let's not pretend we are getting a good product out of it, at least in terms of the legend fights themselves. I like Bellator a lot, I just think there is a definite ceiling here. Tito and Chael are young compared to some of these guys and their fight was so bad that a lot of people thought it was rehearsed. I personally didn't think it was; it just doesn't look the same when old men fight. I'm not arguing against the immediate utility of it, I just think it has a shelf life.

I thought Chael would do better, but I get blinded into thinking he might be the Chael of old (Anderson Silva 1, Nate Marquardt, Brian Stann). But he's never been great at submission defense and he's even worse at dealing with adversity. This was better than his fight with Rashad Evans. At least in this fight he had a moment of offense. Bad showing for Chael. Not a bad fight.

No, Shamrock vs Severn was far and away the worst ever. Kimbo vs Dada was terrible, but I wouldn't include that in any talk of MMA legends. It was based off notoriety yes, but a whole different kind that hopefully is never touched upon again.

I liked Kimbo vs Ken, but that's just my opinion. I liked it because I hate Ken Shamrock and got to see him demonstrate his complete ignorance towards jiu jitsu, followed by his lights getting shut off.

Have you seen the recent videos of Wand sparring?
No, but I don't really watch anyone hitting pads. Looking good or bad on the pads doesn't mean much to me. Pads don't hit back.

(also remember that Tito got a title shot after the Bonnar fight, which should say something)
He got the title shot after subbing Alexander Shlemenko. Title shots have been given for less (at least this was a 2 fight win streak).

don't talk bad on Kimbo please bro

He is actually a big part of early MMA like it or not...set a record when he fought on primetime win or loss

some of the legends are jokes IMO..Chael should not be in any top level MMA discussion.....stained rep and skills are gone completely

Tito actually tries but the last fight has me wondering

Ken is Pro wrestling to the core

Bonnar Tito told me all about both of them

Bella has some amazing fighters....that is all I know

UFC puttin on stinkers every other card so I embrace all comp and cards

enjoy and have a great day

I've had my opinion turned a bit in this thread because I do like the fact that it gets eyes on Bellator's young guys, but as I have said I do think it has a shelf life.

I have a lot of respect for Kimbo, but we can't say that his Bellator fights weren't kind of painful to watch.

I'll try to find it when I have time. He just looked slow. I love the man but I don't think we are going to see something that makes us anything more than a bit bummed out in June. I can't pretend I'm not excited for the fight though.
