As for not coming back to MMA, we'll see. If he wins I don't see why he would return in the immediate future as he can make more doing boxing matches at least a couple times, whether he wins or loses them. Obviously, that's a very slim chance. If he loses but has a good showing, a similar option might still be open.
If he loses badly then MMA would be the only option left open. Now many people are saying he will have made his money and get out, because everyone says they want to get in and out, but almost no one ever does. McGregor has said himself that he is obsessed with fighting, and right now is his prime years for making money and in athletic performance. If he left after the Mayweather fight he would be leaving a lot of cash on the table, while also still having that obsession, that combine makes me believe he will compete either in boxing or MMA after the Mayweather fight, regardless of the outcome. The outcome just determines which sport and how much he will make.
