Haven't seen anything from the new owners that makes me believe it would be better if he left.
AGREEE!!! Before this buyout most were saying how this was going to be great for the fighters, fans, blah blah, blah. So far things haven't been going well. At least the Fertitta Bro's cared about the sport and stepped in occasionally to resolve issues when it came to Dana and fighters clashing. So far we haven't seen much of anyone new, occasionally Ari's name is said but that's about it. If Dana were to retire now it could really screw up the company and it could fall hard... Then GONE! Selling to another business who thinks they can do a better job from a boardroom but have NO experience in MMA.

Dana has been more of a dirt bag IMO than he used to be. Sometimes think he is just following orders from above to do the dirty work. When it comes to the UFC he will never say a bad thing about the New Guys because he still has that big ego and wants folks to think he's in charge. I've noticed is Bigger Named fighters who are signed with WME-IMG's biggest rival are getting a crap deal, almost like they are being punished for NOT signing with WME-IMG to start with and a F U to CAA. GSP, Rory Mac, Cain are all signed with CAA, all have had major issues with the UFC since the buyout.

Both companies have been at each others throats for years, they are the Coke vs Pepsi of the talent agency world. We're seeing the UFC pushing "Crossover Fighters" like PVZ, Sage, the Karate Hottie (just recently) and obviously Ronda (not too long ago) getting big boost while not being at the very top of their divisions. Starting to wonder if this New UFC is becoming more of a fishing pond for Upcoming Hollywood Stars. More and more the fighters looks and popularity are dictating fights over rankings and placement on a card. While other great fighters like MM are getting pushed aside.

Right now Dana is the only link between the UFC and fans. He does tend to listen to what we say ( not always). If he was to leave I fear the worst. The Brothers and Dana had their faults but did care about the company and sometimes would do right by the fighters. Now it's worse, From the amount of corner men the company will pay for and expenses paid when fighting, so many lay offs of long time employees, Joe Silva GONE, Goldie GONE, Chuck GONE.

The first real time I felt a difference in the UFC at a live event was the last TUF Finale in Dec. Had picked up GREAT seats through FP, but this time instead of a number of fighters being around the cage and a few rows back It had changed. Once a year I'll splurge on cageside seat (within the first few rows) so I can get up close and personal to some top level fighters, gets pics and autographs, even been for a drink and or dinner a couple of times with some. Not this time!! Granted it was a smaller show, only one side of the venue had fighters spread through the first couple of rows. The other sides were all well dress mucky mucks with very expensive jewelry and such wearing VIP UFC Full Access Passes. Was not fun sitting with these folk. Most of the high end plastic women (and men) were just chatting between themselves during the fights and didn't have a freaking clue what was going on. One kept asking my friend dumb questions and even started asking "how much longer is this" around second fight of the main card... These seats are were FANS and Fighters should be, Not investors in WME who don't give a shit! One man said to me "this is quite violent" I replied abruptly "They are fighting and fighting is violent, what did you expect"? He stopped bothering me after that. It just made for an uncomfortable eve, spending the extra cash to get access to some fighters and then turning around and seeing Big Country and others fifteen or more rows behind me. Some who'd been fighting earlier in the eve, now sitting way up in the stands and NOT being happy about it. Just like Jo Jo Calderwood posted in November, she was training in Montreal and wanted to catch the Toronto card in Dec. Usually the UFC would Comp a fighter tickets if they called, as fighter presence at a card has always been good for the UFC and the fans, nice perk for the fighters too. She was told NO, call Dana and talk with him or buy your own. WTF!

Things are changing, so far not for the good. I think DW has many faults and pisses me off way more than he should, but... if he goes, I think the UFC the way we know it will be gone within a couple of years.... Not for the better.

Dana is a relic of a bygone era, the age between martial arts purists and Meathead Bros. He salvaged the UFC when the martial arts purists were content to run the company in to the ground, but did so by appealing to the Meathead Bro market. His departure will mean that UFC is finally taking the steps needed to become a legitimate professional athletic competition.

That's good for the sport and good for the athletes.
Bye, Egg.

I don't think that's the case. Seems like he's the only public figure they have in the company that can even talk mma. There are guys like Reed Harris that are awesome but most UFC fans have no idea who he is. The minute they show me a reasonably well mma educated front man to replace him. I'll be happy to move on from his old act.
What's Reed's role in the company Matt? He seems like a great dude, unlike so many others they employ. I wonder if sometimes Reed is disgusted by some of this shit.

His title is VP of public relations
Not sure completely but
I've heard when fighters go nuts on the mic after a fight ( Al Iaquinta, Nate etc) he is the one to deal with it.

I'd have to believe he is troubled by what is going down. Has helped me on a few occasions and seems like an extremely classy guy. I've never heard anyone say anything bad about him in many years going back to wec.

roided out fighters, fight-fixing, unregulated matches...

you have to accept that regulation is a necessary part of it if you want it to be a sport that you can watch on Fox and PPV.
i watched the first UFC on PPV, so I've been following this fighting sport for a long time.
Downward elbows, soccer kicks, knees to the head on the ground...good. Longer rounds, no hand wraps, overall-fight judging...good.

Roid-pimpled sex-criminals smashing each other no money in front of drunken throng of rednecks can be had 3 nights a week at any bar in Bakersfield.

Go. Enjoy.

With all due respect, no I dont. Lose rounds, weight classes, gloves (unless you want them) allow gis as they are weaponized both ways, and fight to a clear finish and not some candy ass stoppage like the Yancy fight last weekend.

great. The fighters will get a couple grand per fight, and you can watch the fights on theync.com
I agree with your rule set from a principled position, but the fact remains that it would never be legitimized and would be even less palatable to the casual fan than the current version.

We've been down that road, and we know where it leads.

If you want professional athletes and paydays that justify the fighters' sacrifices, you have to accept a game that the casual fan can understand and (most importantly) is willing to bet on after they have a couple drinks.

Ditch Dana, steal rich Franklin, give him a business nerd as an assistant..profit?
I just don't think Dana has the long term interests of the company in mind. This is not the same company as it was before. I do not believe Dana lobbies for things to be done in what many believe to be a proper way. I believe he got paid, got new marching orders and is now just chasing the next payday. After that he will just disappear with all his f u money.
At least Franklin would bust his ass to do a good job, while advocating to ownership the ways things should be done. He would be a much more likeable face for the company and be less likely to blatantly disrespect his independent contractors.
It is late and my brain has melted, this was probably an idiotic digression. Be well.

This was a really good read thanks for sharing your experiences, i never knew about the issues surrounding fighters now having to pay for tickets etc, you bring up some valuable points. It can be extremely hard to decipher how much total say Dana has nowadays, i believe he has quite the final say in most things but he'll also take the bad press in positions that look unfavourable to new UFC owners.

I think what drives me mad is through all these fighters concerns, Dana is still willing to clash with them rather than try to fix the issue. Like a bull in a china shop. This is why i made this thread, to have a conversation about both sides, I've not been a fan of his approach for a while but there's no reason we as 'hardcore' fans can't have polite discussion about it.

Rich Franklin could be a really good call, though does he do much 'promotion' at ONE or is his position more boardroom / office based now? I only remember reading about him taking a job with them.

Well thankfully Reebok really made it better for fighters to earn a living, right?
