Wow so if the paying customers are all that old while the younger gen just watches clips and highlights on free platforms, the UFC has really invested foolishly all these years.

Younger people dont watch tv. They just stream shit online.

Nobody under the age of 30 is paying for cable.

Its easy to figure out when you see grown men\losers who still play video games in their 20's and 30's instead if procreating with females and doing manly stuff.

Its just sad

The sport isn't reaching out to new fans.... Less people actually consider doing MMA now (especially with the highly publicized issues regarding fighter pay, CTE, and rampant drug use). It's being sustained by all the old school UFC fans, original TUF watchers, and Pride diehards.

The UFC devalues their own product by only marketing a specific few fighters... Now that pretty much all of them are on the shelf, it's damaged their brand..... If you sell Ronda and Conor as unbeatable demigods, and they get beaten, newer fans are left wondering what all the hype is about.

The UFC bashes top BJJ guys, labeling them as "boring", they prefer the big KO's from the rock em/sock em style fighters... The issue with that is fans with technical knowledge (those who train) know that those guys are tough, but not necessarily the best, and the casual fans can't really root for those style fighters because quite often those fighters trade wins and losses. This is why the UFC banks on (and why the fighters are using) the Conor personality.... It's all about personalities and personas.

I know that the UFC isn't MMA, but to the new casual fans, this is what they know.... It's the Kleenex effect (everyone calls tissue Kleenex, it's a brand not the product). Bellator doesn't have the views yet, and they prefer to sustain themselves with nostalgia.... Get the old fighters that the old fans (the mentioned MMA demographic) know, and along the way show off a new talent to hopefully sustain the brand as those old fighters fall off. They don't have the marketing push, but where they have done well (Coker is good for it) is putting together any fight they consider bankable. The UFC did it with Brock and Phil Brooks, but Bellator would book the ghost of Nancy Reagan vs Harriet Tubman's great great great grand niece if it would generate views (Reagan wins round 3 TKO... GnP finish).

I wonder how the demographics changed as the UFC introduced more and more women's fights in dam near every event.could honestly be what attracted the older crowd

Also, cable is indeed becoming ancient.

It still skews pretty young for sports or for television in general.

This is also another reason why the UFC should want to break up their next television deal across platforms and try and get on Netflix. FightPass, while a valuable platform, only appeals to the hardcore fans. Netflix is looking to add live sports to their portfolio, and the UFC could reach new fans via Netflix who otherwise wouldn't be exposed to MMA.

Honestly, the only reason I still have a cable subscription is because Comcast made it actually cheaper to keep a bundled with internet. I don't actually have a cable box hooked up because, per a Comcast tech, using a splitter could potentially slow down my internet.

Meh all the youngsters look at the PPV price and think 'fuck that' and go online and find a decent stream from hundreds on the web.

Yeah all those ppvs that did 1.5mil buys back in the day. All those old school tufers. MMA has never been more popular, but it's still a niche sport and always will be.

If the market has actually changed that much (and I'm not sure it has) then UFC absolutely needs to behave more like a sport and less like WWE. Follow the rankings unless injuries and other factors preclude it. Maybe you can pick 1 or 2 divisions that have a Ronda or a Conor to hold cross-weight super fights, but quickly integrate them back into their natural division. Yes, someone might beat them and ruin their gravy train, but the fans will appreciate quality over cosmetics in the long run. At some point, champions will become artificial and unaccountable to defending their reputation as champion. That will get exposed. Be on the right side of history and give the sport a structure based, at least in-part, on independent, non-UFC-hired rankings.

Same as NHL and Boxing. If you go down the list it really isn't all that bad? Old people watch sports?

Practically none of those sports are interesting and I'm glad they seem to be on their way out.

What does the "L" in LPGA stand for? Lesbian?

;)

That's rather surprising.

I'll be 27 this July(scaring the shit outta me). I figured it was 30 somethings and under that mostly watched MMA... although, that does explain some things.

Lol yeah that's why his rematch with Nate (right after he lost to Nate the first time) was the highest-selling PPV of all time and then his fight with Alvarez did another 1.3 million buys.

Keep talking out of your ass.

Bet its the median age of people buying the PPVs, obviously people pirating (most likely to be younger) are not part of these statistics.

I've stopped ordering ppvs altogether. It will take a truly special card for me to plop down $60+ for another one. It felt like no matter how good the card was (there were some exceptions) I couldn't escape the feeling of buyers remorse in the morning. At that price, the value just isn't there for me.
