At least four killed in San Francisco UPS facility shooting: TV news

"At least four people were killed, including the suspected gunman, when a disgruntled United Parcel Service Inc employee opened fire at a company facility in San Francisco, two local TV news stations reported.

After firing on co-workers, the suspect turned a gun on himself when confronted by police, according to NBC Bay Area and ABC 7. He later died at an area hospital, they said, citing law enforcement sources."

Is that an excuse?
No it means I doubt it was the one trump supporter in the city. I obviously don't think this one is political but If the person voted I'd say it's 99% they were a Bernie or Hillary supporter.

Was that a root cause for his shooting?

It seems silly to ignore the incitement of political violence if said political positions are the reason for the violence.

Ever notice how alot of these mass work shootings happen at union jobs? I know there is a huge disconnect between management and workers at UPS here.

I used to post on a boxing forum years ago & there were several UPS employees there, they were all disgruntled.

shit, now there is an active shooter @ Travis Air Force Base

they were on lockdown for a couple hours but it appears to have just ended, not sure of details yet

edit - turned out to be a mistaken report, they were doing a security exercise there today which is funny because the last time they did an exercise like that they had a mistaken report of an incident too, they might want to look into that lol

They get paid very very good but they are putting in hours and working all day ...so they become discontent.

That's the catch about working for UPS -- you can get paid and make big bank but you won't have time to spend it ...forget Holidays with the family ...you'll be out delivering, and vacation is based on seniority since UPS buddies up with the Union.

Will be interesting to find out why the guy snapped.

Most of my close friends work at UPS as full time union employees that have been there for 20-25 years. UPS has also been my biggest customer for 20+ years and I've gotten employees all around the country in maintenance, facilities, and engineering roles. I've never spoken with one of their employees that absolutely hated the company. Most feel they're well compensated and are thrilled about being able to get out after 30 yrs (mid 50's most) with full pension, stock options, and benefits.

In my opinion, this cowardly asshole in San Fran is likely mentally ill and had a lot deeper shit going on besides whether UPS was a good employer or not.

True but not exactly. My best friend for 25 years is a driver for ups. He makes $35/hr gets 7 weeks vacation and puts in about 50 hrs a week, so he's getting time and a half for 10 of those hours. Great benefits, can buy stock at discounted prices, and can get out when he's 53 with full pension and benefits.

Another close friend of mine has worked out on the ramp unloading planes for 25 years and he's also a union steward. Also gets like 6-7 weeks vacation, and will retire in his mid 50's pretty well off.

Yes their vacation goes by seniority but when you get beyond 4 weeks, you're way up the list and can most likely get the weeks you want.

Another buddy of mine has been driving a fuel truck that fuels the planes. He may work 2-3 hours a night. The rest of time he's sleeping in his truck or on his phone. Dudes makes $80k a year with 7 weeks vacation.

i know maintenance guys that make $100k a year and spend 6 hrs a night sitting on their carts reading, playing on their phones, listening to their radios.

It's not that bad of a gig really. The newer guys that have it rough are the non-union full time people that work in plant engineering, facilities, etc and are trying to rise thru the ranks. UPS used to require those guys to relocate 2-3 times throughout their careers for experience. Luckily ups has cut back on that due to the money it cost the company.

It seems to be a huge huge circle jerk between the company and union with the workers caught between.

To even make any money at ups you have to put in a lot of time and effort in it is a huge pain in the ass drivers have been there for at least a decade, I got promoted way faster doing other jobs.

Yes.

But I've read all the bad jokes on this thread, so too bad.
