Matt Hughes is “awake and responsive” one day after being seriously injured in a truck-train crash Friday morning, his longtime manager Monte Cox told MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani on Saturday.

Cox, who is speaking directly with Hughes’ brother Matt, said family and doctors are “optimistic and hopeful” about Hughes’ condition.

“He is awake, but eyes closed,” Cox said. “Can squeeze hands.”

Hopefully the hospital fed him a big country breakfast this morning and got his blood flowing.

They used to pound eachother behind the barn
I think people get shot for that sorta thing where he's from if the devil doesn't eat their souls first.

Regardless, still my fav..speedy recovery for him.

Great news. Hope he able to tell his side of the story to erase all the speculation involving the accident.

Wish him a well

Speculation? I'm pretty sure everyone agrees he pulled in front of a train and got hit.

I was speaking of the fact that some people think it was a Suicide Attempt.

Either way. It's Best he says what happened.

He thinks he's gods gift to the human race...I don't see how anyone could think it was a suicide attempt.

I'm very pleased to hear this, especially after reading about Tim Hague. Hope he recovers as well as possible as quickly as possible

ESPN is reporting otherwise. I see an update from an hour ago on their website saying he remains unresponsive, and that there are no broken bones, he has a couple minor lacerations and remains unresponsive. You would think his manager would be the one in the know, and I hope it's the case the espn is mistaken.

EDIT: I just saw the other news page with the update from his family. I guess the manager was mistaken about the responsiveness, but it's good to hear the condition may be showing signs of improvement.
