Those are pretty terrible.

What's that got to do with 'we will or won't dox you with our news organization as long as you apologize about a meme.'

CNN isnt running a piece on that content or what that means in some bigger picture of who that guy is and his reddit history. It's purely about as long as he plays nice to them (CNN), they won't come dox him.

Tor can be compromised.

Vpn can be compromised.

To identify your IP address through both I would need to do something like have you launched a piece of JavaScript.

The way you get doxxed is typically sharing screen names and sharing personal information. And that's what happened here it sounds like.

Sorry poor choice of terminology on my part

So to get someone to launch a bit of JavaScript do they normally imp a service provider? We got smashed by some ransomware a few weeks ago and our IT sec guys are shitting bricks

Probably someone here imo

Just caught up with this news. Just read the article from CNN. Absolutely disgusting to threaten someone with doxxing just because they made a meme you didn't like.

My respect for CNN is all but gone. Can't stand behind something like that.

Here's what I think happened. CNN got word of this cockwomble taking credit for the meme about them and decided, for whatever reason, to do a little digging on him. They discover his posting history instantly, then some other means of identification from that history linking to his real name. From that they contact him for comment on the article they are going to write about this fucknugget.

He replies with a profuse apology, saying he will delete everything, just please don't out me as twaty mctwatface. CNN, being the liberal douchenozzles that they are, think awesome we've won a victory against racism, we should make an article to tell everyone about how magnanimous we are being by not outing this guy - I can just imagine one of their editors saying, 'then everyone can heap praise on us' as he tells the junior writer what to do.

Of course, they completely miss how this looks like they blackmailed the walking festering hemorrhoid, and now they are getting shat on for being liberal douchenozzles when they should have just outed Krusty McMicropenis and been done with it.

Remove the liberal this, liberal that.

At it's core, CNN threatened to dox a guy (no matter how offensive in old posts) based on a Meme they didn't like.

This has backfired spectacularly, and rightfully so.

Anyone who can say "a hint of blackmail" or 'so-and-so makes this appear to be blackmail' appears to be wearing blinders.

It's there in black and white.

CNN: He has apologized for the meme and agrees not to post anything else negative about us or else we will post his private info. The same info which we have just said that he has all but begged us not to share.

From the cnn article...

, "HanA**holeSolo" sounded nervous about his identity being revealed and asked to not be named out of fear for his personal safety and for the public embarrassment it would bring to him and his family.

CNN is not publishing "HanA**holeSolo's" name because he is a private citizen who has issued an extensive statement of apology, showed his remorse by saying he has taken down all his offending posts, and because he said he is not going to repeat this ugly behavior on social media again. In addition, he said his statement could serve as an example to others not to do the same.
CNN reserves the right to publish his identity should any of that change.
